Our geriatric care managers help with the varied issues seniors face such as crises, like hospitalizations, the loss of a spouse, or depression. We understand dealing with the changes that come with aging, such as increased isolation, discontent with the quality of care being received. With all these factors, families become overwhelmed with the amount of care needed; life transitions, such as moving or a hospital discharge; and long-term planning, regarding things such as advance directives, living wills, or long-term insurance.

One previous client, in particular, Dorothy, is a prime example of this. Dorothy’s POA lived out of the area and, unlike our caregivers who were there on a daily basis, was largely unaware of the issues her aunt was facing as her dementia increased and her body weakened. Due to a large health crisis and continued mental instability, Dorothy was a prime candidate to be moved out of her independent living facility and into something with a higher level of care. However, because she had no family to advocate for her in this area, it was vital that we stepped in. After coordinating with doctors, housing managers, and long-distance with the niece, we were able to help recommend a plan of action for Dorothy that would ensure her long-term health and safety.

| Meet our Care Manager |

Linda Hunter

Linda graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree of Science in Radiologic Technology. She is a member of Hyada Park Guild raising money for Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital to care for needy families. Linda is married with three children and has been very involved with the care of her aging parents for the past fifteen years.

 “I have seen my parents through the many stages and levels of elder care. This experience inspired me to become a Certified Long Term Care Ombudsman. I enjoy being an advocate for residents who live in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adult family homes, or those receiving hospice care. My duties include mediation, advocacy, problem solving, and follow up for residents, their families, and staff to improve their quality of life.”

Linda is currently working with Comfort Keepers as a care manager. She provides resources and information to staff, residents, and their families to determine benefit eligibility and assist with selection of Long Term Care facilities, and other services for the elderly. She also assists with education classes in the community.

“My goal is to help residents and their families to know their rights, to make decisions on their own behalf and help them live with dignity and respect in an environment that supports the highest possible quality of life.”
