Aerobic Exercises for Aging Adults

Comfort Keepers In-Home Care in De Pere, Wisconsin.

Aerobic Exercises for Aging Adults in Home Care

Exercising can become more challenging for adults as they age, but that doesn’t make it any less necessary. In order to stay active and keep their heart healthy, many aging adults do aerobic exercises.

Aerobic exercise can be broken up into four types: endurance, strength, flexibility, and balance. Rotating these different types of aerobic exercises within a daily regimen will improve your loved one’s overall health and prevent possible injury. Just make sure your loved one consults a doctor first.

  • Walking:
The easiest and most effective aerobic exercise is walking, which is easy on the joints. Your loved one should stretch when finished with his or her walk to avoid injuries or soreness in the future.
  • Water Aerobics:
A pain-free and resistance-based exercise, water aerobics are good for building strength but can have cardiovascular benefits as well. This is due to the properties water possesses.
  • Yoga:
An amalgamation of the four types of aerobic exercise, yoga is good for maintaining a healthy weight and blood pressure. It is also very accessible, meaning your loved one can do it at home.
  • Tai Chi:
Part meditation and part exercise, Tai Chi is good for balance and flexibility. It has become very popular among aging adults because it’s helpful when dealing with joint pain.
