Frequently Asked Questions about In-Home Care in Davenport, IA and Surrounding Areas

Learn more about our in-home care services for seniors in Davenport, IA

What is the difference between home care and healthcare?

Although in-home care can be used to describe both medical and non-medical care, in most cases, this term only refers to non-medical care. On the other hand, home healthcare refers to the delivery of skilled nursing care.

What services does Comfort Keepers offer in Davenport?

At Comfort Keepers, we offer a wide variety of in-home care services such as meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, grocery shopping/errands, incidental transportation, medication reminders, grooming, and more. Our caregivers also deliver personal care services.

How do you select caregivers?

Rest assured that all of our caregivers share our vision and are completely dedicated to delivering the top-quality care we are known for. Before we hire a new care provider, they have to undergo national and local criminal background checks, DMV, as well as personal and professional reference checks.  All of our caregivers are bonded and insured.

How much does in-home care cost?

Since each of our offices is independently owned and operated, contact your local Comfort Keepers office to learn about the rates in your area.

When are your services available?

Our in-home care services are available 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, so you can rest assured that your loved one will receive the level of care they need, when they need it.

Can you provide services on short notice?

Sometimes unexpected situations can occur. We understand this, which is why we are prepared to provide in-home care services on an as-needed basis.

Do you provide services in nursing homes or assisted living communities?

Apart from delivering care at home, we can also provide our services in nursing homes or assisted living facilities when seniors require additional care or support.

Is there a plan of care for each of your clients?

We are proud to provide customized care plans that are tailored to the specific needs of each of our clients. After learning about your loved one’s care needs and preferences, we will create a Plan of Care. Once you, your family member, and the local office agree on the Plan of Care, our office will recommend the caregiver who will be delivering the service. Our plans are reviewed every six months, or even more often if needed.

Will my loved one have the same caregiver all the time?

Based on your loved one’s condition, care needs, preferences, and personality, we will match them with a suitable caregiver. In case their care provider is sick or on vacation, our care coordinator will arrange another caregiver and will contact you in advance of the change.

What are ADLs and IADLs?

Activities of Daily Living are daily tasks that ensure normal everyday functioning, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, and toileting. Instrumental Activities of Daily Living are less basic tasks, but still important for enhancing a client’s quality of life. These include activities such as shopping, running errands, and household chores.

How do you ensure continuity of care during holidays or staff changes?

We understand how important consistency is when it comes to care. That’s why we have dedicated systems in place to ensure your loved one always receives the support they need, even during holidays or when a regular caregiver is unavailable. We work closely as a team to match each client with a qualified caregiver who is familiar with their preferences and routine, and we communicate proactively with families to provide updates or introduce substitute caregivers when necessary. Our goal is to provide seamless, uninterrupted care with a familiar, comforting presence.

What measures do you take to support clients with memory care needs?

For clients living with dementia or other memory-related conditions, we offer personalized support designed to promote safety, familiarity, and peace of mind. Our caregivers are trained to provide gentle reminders, structured routines, and compassionate companionship, all within the comfort of home. We focus on creating a calming environment, encouraging meaningful activities, and honoring each client’s unique history, preferences, and needs. This approach helps build trust and a sense of security, which are essential to quality memory care.

How do you collaborate with families to update care plans as needs evolve?

Care needs can change over time, and we’re here to adapt alongside your family. From the start, we involve families in creating a personalized care plan, and we maintain open, ongoing communication to ensure those plans remain effective and up to date. Whether it’s adjusting daily routines, increasing support, or adding new services, we work closely with you to ensure your loved one continues to receive the right level of care at every stage.
