National Day of Joy

Comfort Keepers In-Home Care in Elmhurst, Illinois.

Share the Happiness During the National Day of Joy Celebrations with Comfort Keepers

We invite everyone in Elmhurst, IL to celebrate the National Day of Joy

Comfort Keepers, a local care at home provider for seniors and other adults over the age of 18, started sponsoring this nationwide event. The National Day of Joy was created to encourage people everywhere to stop and take a moment to smell the roses. Most of us have become so wrapped up in the stresses of our daily lives that we never see the joy surrounding us. This often leads to depression and more. Taking the time to find joy in everything you see and do has been proven to have both mental and physical benefit for seniors no matter they live.

The National Day of Joy has been featured in newspapers, magazines, and on radio and television. This event found its way into countless thousands of social media posts that were shared around the world.

When We Fill Our World with Joy

According to a recent study conducted by the Mayo Clinic has found that when we fill ourselves with the warm feelings that being joyous, your heart beats stronger, pumping more oxygen into your body and brain. At the same time, your brain signals to increase endorphin production. All of this combined can take away feelings of tension and stress. Spreading the sense of joy everywhere they go, our care at home providers can make a big difference in the lives of their clients. As for our caregivers, they are chosen for their skills and the right joyous demeanor.

Our clients typically come to think of our care at home caregivers so much as part of the family; they invite them to join in special events. These might include going to a festival where they can create memories and top it off with having their photos taken together. It doesn't take much to find the joy in most things we do. Accompanying their clients on outings is the perfect way to blow out those feelings of depression as they find the joy they have been missing.

At a recent event in Elmhurst, IL, seniors, and their caregivers were encouraged to create smiles on a stick and submit them for a raffle with fun prizes. Activities such as these are an excellent way for our clients and caregivers to show each other how important a part they play in each other’s lives. We spend so much time dealing with the negative aspects of our lives that simply taking the time out for something like a local fete fan the sparks of joy in our minds into a roaring inferno never seems to cross our minds.

We Asked - You Answered

During the 2019 inaugural Day of Joy, Comfort Keepers had a team of researchers ask people a few questions to determine what brings them the most joy. The results fell along the lines we expected with those in the 18 to 29 age group reporting the lowest level of joy. Those in 45 to 60 group were somewhere floating in the middle, and seniors over 60 exhibiting the highest levels of joy.

But we also asked those who have a senior at home care provider another question. We asked the adult children how if they noticed any difference in how they felt based on their loved one's level of happiness and contentment. What we found was that higher levels of joy help the adult children to relax, safe with the knowledge their loved one is well cared for. We also found that those clients are far more likely to refer us to other members of their family and their friends.

At Comfort Keepers serving Elmhurst, IL, and the surrounding area, our mission is to provide care at home services that help our clients find the simple joys in life, such as staying connected with family and friends by teaching them how to use a computer. We all need to have a sense of purpose; it gives us the hope we need to carry on. Finding the joy in our lives only serves to boost our sense of purpose and builds our expectations for success to new levels.
