As the spouse, dependent, or survivor of a Veteran or service member, you may be eligible for certain benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs. These can include health care, financial support to help pay for school or training, life insurance, and more. It's important to understand what these benefits are and how you can qualify for them.

One way to qualify for VA benefits is if you are the surviving spouse of a Veteran or service member who died as a result of their service. Another way to qualify for VA benefits as a spouse is if you are married to a Veteran or service member with a service-related disability. This means that your spouse was injured or became sick while serving. If any of those situations apply to you, we encourage you to reach out to the VA and learn more about what is available.

Benefits for spouses, dependents, and survivors may include:

  • Healthcare

  • Home loan programs or financial counseling

  • Life insurance options, claims, and beneficiary assistance

  • Pre-need eligibility determination for burial in a VA national cemetery

  • Burial benefits and memorial items

  • Compensation for surviving spouse and dependents

  • Survivors’ pension

If you think you may be eligible for VA benefits as a spouse, dependent, or survivor, we encourage you to reach out to the Department of Veterans Affairs and learn more. They will be able to tell you what benefits you are eligible for and how to apply for them.

If you’re caring for a Veteran, you may also be eligible for support to help you better care for them and yourself. At Comfort Keepers, we are dedicated to helping Veterans and surviving spouses receive the benefits they deserve, including in-home Veteran assisted living services. We want to thank all Veterans and active duty members of the military for all that they do.  Know that our caregivers will also do all that they can to ensure you and your family are safe, happy, and healthy at home.
