About Lawndale

In the early 1900s, the land that Lawndale once sat upon was sold to Charles Hooper who began selling smaller portions of it to raise chickens. As more residents began to inhabit the sunny lands, railroads began to develop through the area. After the Second World War, veterans and their families began to settle in the area because of its lush land and sunny climate.

Today, the 91 Freeway and the 405 Freeway surround Lawndale. These are two major highways in Los Angeles that help bring in thousands of visitors every day. The town also has its own line of public transportation systems. The Lawndale Beat, Metro Green Line, and Gardena Bus systems all run throughout the city to help connect Lawndale to the metropolitan area of downtown Los Angeles.
