How Can We Help with Parkinson's Care and ALS Care

Clients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson’s Disease or those who simply struggle with mobility issues can receive strategic and carefully-crafted care in order to live independently and complete daily tasks of living.

No caregivers are challenged more than those caring for ALS patients. Patients with ALS need increasing assistance with all activities of daily living, their ability to speak or write diminishes, and the physical demands of their care become more onerous just when it becomes riskier to leave them unattended. Even with paid assistance, it has been estimated that ALS caregivers spend 11 hours every day with the patient and feel a strong sense of responsibility for their care and indeed survival, especially when mechanical ventilation is used.

At Comfort Keepers we’re recognized as a certified provider of ALS care and Parkinson's care by the U.S. ALS Association. Our caregivers are specially trained to adapt care to the needs of clients with ALS and Parkinson’s disease or other motor-function related illnesses or disabilities. These caregivers help make us the primary provider of mobility care in Southeast Missouri.

Activities with which we help clients include:

  • Bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting
  • Ostomy hygiene
  • Bowel Program
  • Food preparation (mechanical, soft or pureed diet) and consumption
  • Companionship – playing games, conversing, and correspondence
  • Getting in and out of beds and chairs (orientation, as well) Assist with lifts and other transfer devices
  • Transportation or errands

For advanced ALS care and Parkinson's care needs, we work closely with clients and client advocates to coordinate the best actions and efforts. This ensures that every service is appropriate and effective.  Our services are available for a minimum of two hours per week and as many as 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For extended service periods, our caregivers work in teams and each caregiver takes designated shifts.  Transitions from shift to shift are seamless.
