End-of-life planning and compassion, when families need it most

Comfort Keepers In-Home Care in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

End-of-life planning and compassion, when families need it most

End-of-life planning is an important step families can take to ensure the wishes of their loved one and stay prepared.

When loved ones are living out their last days at home, it can be an especially difficult and emotional time. Whether receiving end of life care over many months, or the course of weeks or days, Comfort Keepers works hard to provide families with the support and assistance they need to make the most of their days together.

Comfort Keepers End-of-Life Services

There is no cookie-cutter approach to end-of-life planning and care, but there are some consistencies in the types of support Comfort Keepers has provided families during this transition, and we share them here with you in hopes you may find them useful during you family’s journey.

Coordinated Care
In addition to family loved ones, there may be additional home health services provided by home hospice or medical care professionals, and it is crucial that all care partners work as a coordinated team to be informed of schedules, care plans and changes in health; adapting care and services to your loved one’s changing needs.

Respite Care
Caring for a loved one at the end of life can be emotionally challenging and physically exhausting, especially for the primary caregiver and family members. Our caregivers can provide respite care, or temporary relief for caregivers. This allows time to recharge, go to work, run errands, or simply take a regular break.

Companionship and Personal Care
Our caregivers are trained to demonstrate both compassion and calming professionalism, providing comforting reassurance during the many ups-and-downs that come with the end of life. A trusting caregiver can provide bathing and toileting assistance, meal preparation, dressing and grooming and other daily personal cares to help keep your loved one comfortable, dignified, and safe, and to ensure that you can best spend your time in the most meaningful ways possible.

Continuing Care
Should families need support after loved ones pass, we can continue to help deal with the grief and many of the tasks they will face. From consolidation and organization of personal items to moving belongings, or just being there for the family to talk to or to maintain some of the household duties for a time, we continue to be there to help ease the burdens a family may feel.

If a loved one is approaching end of life, or a care coordinator or social worker has referred you to an in-home care agency to help round out an end of life planning team for a loved one at home or in a care facility, we are proud to put our experience to work for you and your family. With a few basic steps we can develop a care plan, assign a qualified Caregiver, and begin care.

If you have questions about end-of-life planning or would like to research options that can be the right solution for you, call us today at (651) 373-8736.
