September 2026 | Supporting the Lubbock Meals on Wheels Weekend Meal Bag Program

What happens when Friday’s meal delivery ends, but a senior still needs food for Saturday and Sunday?

That is the need Feed Seniors Now was created to help meet.

Throughout September 2026, Comfort Keepers of Lubbock is once again joining forces with Lubbock Meals on Wheels and inviting businesses, churches, healthcare organizations, community groups, families, and neighbors across Lubbock to help provide weekend food assistance to local seniors.

Feed Seniors Now supports the Lubbock Meals on Wheels Weekend Meal Bag Program, which provides shelf-stable, nonperishable food to seniors who may otherwise have limited access to meals on Saturdays and Sundays.

For Comfort Keepers owner Lisa Carson, the campaign is about more than collecting food. It is about what happens when a community notices a need and decides, together, to do something about it.

And this September, there are plenty of ways to help.

The Weekend Need Is Growing

The number of local seniors receiving weekend food assistance continues to rise.

During the 2025 Feed Seniors Now campaign, Lubbock Meals on Wheels provided weekend food assistance to 675 seniors — a 13% increase over the previous year.

Later in 2025, the organization reported:

  • 1,100 meals served each day

  • Breakfast provided to 860 recipients three days per week

  • Weekend meals provided to 675 seniors

Feed Seniors Now campaign materials also report that 1 in 6 seniors struggles with hunger.

Those numbers tell an important story. But behind every number is a person — a neighbor, parent, grandparent, friend, or longtime member of the Lubbock community.

For the seniors who depend on weekend food assistance, a stocked meal bag can mean knowing there will be something available to eat after the regular weekday deliveries stop.

That is why this campaign matters.

Lubbock Has Already Shown What It Can Do

Feed Seniors Now works because people throughout the community choose to participate.

During the 2025 campaign, Gene Messer dealerships donated 3,000 pounds of shelf-stable food, showing the impact one local organization can make by stepping forward.

The 2025 Feed Seniors Now campaign generated:

$18,750 in financial contributions

16,433 pounds of donated food

Those results are worth celebrating — and they give us something to build on.

In 2026, our goal is simple: bring even more of Lubbock together to help fill Weekend Meal Bags for local seniors.

You do not need to donate thousands of pounds of food to make a meaningful difference.

You just need to start somewhere.

How Will You Be Part of Feed Seniors Now?

There is no single way to participate.

A business can organize a workplace food drive.

A church can invite its congregation to collect requested items.

A healthcare organization can become a collection location or sponsor.

A team can volunteer together.

A family can fill a grocery bag.

An individual can donate, volunteer, or simply tell someone else about the campaign.

Every contribution becomes part of a larger community effort to make sure more local seniors have food available throughout the weekend.

Fill a Weekend Meal Bag

One of the simplest ways to participate is to donate the food items Lubbock Meals on Wheels needs for its Weekend Meal Bags.

Throughout September, Feed Seniors Now will collect non-refrigerated, unexpired, single-serving food items that can be distributed directly to local seniors.

What to Donate

Requested items include:

  • Soup

  • Small cans of tuna or chicken

  • Individual Beanie Weenies

  • Vienna sausages

  • Individual oatmeal packets

  • Peanut butter or cheese crackers

  • Individual Chef Boyardee meals

  • Individual packages of peanuts

Please donate non-refrigerated, unexpired items in single-serving sizes.

One item helps.

One bag helps.

One workplace, congregation, organization, or group of neighbors deciding to participate can help even more.

Small contributions become powerful when an entire community makes them together.

Why Comfort Keepers Is Part of Feed Seniors Now

For 24 years, Comfort Keepers of Lubbock has supported local seniors and families, helping older adults remain connected to the homes, routines, relationships, and communities they know.

That experience has reinforced something Lisa and the Comfort Keepers team see every day:

Caring for seniors takes a community.

Comfort Keepers’ longstanding partnership with Lubbock Meals on Wheels is one way the organization puts that belief into action.

Lubbock Meals on Wheels operates the Weekend Meal Bag Program, while Comfort Keepers helps champion Feed Seniors Now, raise awareness of the need, encourage participation, and connect local businesses and organizations with opportunities to contribute.

Together, the organizations share a commitment to helping local seniors feel supported, valued, and remembered.

“Feed Seniors Now is about seeing a need in our community and realizing that every one of us has some way to help,” Lisa said. “Whether you sponsor the campaign, host a food drive, volunteer, or donate a few items, you become part of making sure seniors in our community know they are cared for.”

One Month. One Community. A Lot of Ways to Help.

September is our opportunity to turn individual acts of generosity into something much bigger.

More businesses collecting food.

More churches rallying their congregations.

More healthcare organizations and community groups getting involved.

More volunteers giving their time.

More families filling bags.

More neighbors telling neighbors.

Every one of those actions can help put food into the hands of a local senior who depends on weekend assistance.

This September, join Comfort Keepers of Lubbock and Lubbock Meals on Wheels and help make Feed Seniors Now 2026 our strongest community effort yet.
