Free Things for Seniors to Do Right Here in Brunswick County, NC

Comfort Keepers In-Home Care in Shallotte, North Carolina.

Did someone say free?!

There are so many free things to do in Brunswick County, NC! From beautiful parks, to meals, to workouts, you’ll find a wide array of free things in Calabash, Shallotte, Supply, and so many of Brunswick County, NC’s towns and cities. We’ve scoured the internet and compiled this list of some of our favorites!

  1. Head to one of the many beautiful parks in Brunswick County. Many have walking trails, playgrounds, and picnic shelters available. I love taking my grandchildren to the Ocean Isle Beach Park. Their playgrounds are set-up to be age-specific making it easier for the little ones to use the equipment. You can find a complete list of the parks in our area by clicking here.

  2. Brunswick Senior Resources Centers are located throughout the county including a center in Calabash, Shallotte, Supply, and more. These centers offer everything from workout facilities, to movies, to lunch. Some even have art classes you can take! Most services are free to those sixty and older, others require a small fee to participate (some of the classes, for example). Learn more here.

  3. Sunset Beach Turtle Watch offers free Sea Turtle Watch Programs every Sunday at 7:00 pm. This non-profit group monitors and protects sea turtle nests and hatchlings. They also provide excellent educational sessions. You can learn more by visiting their website.

  4. Although not located in Brunswick County, Vereen Gardens is a gorgeous park with beautiful trails. If you head south just over the South Carolina line, you’ll find this beautiful park located right on the Intracoastal waterway. Walk one of the many trails, visit the shell trees where you can leave a shell or admire the many left for others,  or sit on the sandy beach and watch the boats sail by. This park is truly a gem and, is free to visit! There website was down when writing this post but you can click here for more information.

  5. Enjoy a free concert! There are several options throughout southeastern Brunswick County to see a variety of musical acts. Sunset Beach has free concerts June through August at the Sunset Beach Park.

  6. Head to a market or festival! There are so many incredibly talented local artists! Why not head to one of the art festivals and check out their wares? You can learn more about the ones in Ocean Isle and more by clicking here

A little planning and research can go a long way towards helping you find some amazing free things to do! After all, nothing sounds better than “free”!
