About Ringoes, NJ:

Ringoes is the oldest known settlement in Hunterdon County. Decades before the Revolutionary War, John Ringo built a small log tavern, with a signboard bearing a portrait of General Washington hanging outside. Over time the tavern became a noted resting-place for travelers, and became known as "Ringo's Old Tavern." The village grew up around John Ringo's Tavern. Justices and Freeholders frequently gathered there to discuss important civil affairs. The tavern was the site for many meetings of the Hunterdon Chapter of the Sons of Liberty formed in 1766. Today, Ringoes is an unincorporated community located within East Amwell Township.
