Born in Ohio
The Comfort Keepers story began in 1998 when Kris Clum, a registered nurse working in home health care in Ohio, discovered firsthand the need for someone to assist her patients with their non-medical needs. As a nurse, she could only tend to their medical or skilled care needs.
Her clients often valued companionship above all else and requested small favors to improve their quality of life. Whether it was help with laundry, a ride to a doctor’s appointment, or just spending time over a puzzle, her patients wished to have someone brighten their day with a few minutes of conversation and a helping hand.
Kris recognized the emotional struggles of her patients and saw an opportunity to help. She brainstormed with her family to find a phrase that captured the emotion and sentiment of their future business. Kris' daughter suggested “Comfort Keepers” based on the company’s goal: to keep clients comfortably at home as an alternative to expensive nursing homes and senior facilities. And Comfort Keepers was born!
Since 1998, the company has flourished from a dream to 700+ locations worldwide.
