Albuquerque, NM – Hunger is a serious threat facing over five million seniors in the United States. In fact, we all have a grandparent, parent or friend who may be suffering in silence. Older adults face many obstacles to getting healthy food, and those challenges can lead to malnutrition. According to Feeding America, 1 in 7 seniors risk going hungry due to the inability to obtain sufficient food for their household, or having to choose between food and medical care. During the month of September, Comfort Keepers, the City of Albuquerque Dept. of Senior Affairs, and Silver Horizons are working together to raise awareness for this growing epidemic that impacts millions of older Americans trying to remain healthy and independent. You can help by donating non-perishable foods at the city-wide Stop Senior Hunger locations at area Senior/Multigenerational Centers, or Comfort Keepers offices.

Comfort Keepers® is a leading in-home care service for seniors and other adults needing care. Since its founding in 1998, the network has grown to more than 700 franchised locations around the world by staying true to the founders' goal of providing quality in-home care and nursing services that allow clients the opportunity to age in place. Stop Senior Hunger is in its 6th year in the Albuquerque area.

The Department of Senior Affairs provides activities and opportunities to promote active and healthy aging by offering a continuum of care designed to meet individual needs throughout the aging spectrum. The Department also provides access to many services in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County for frail homebound seniors over the age of 60.

Silver Horizons is a non-profit organization that supports low-income and at-risk seniors by providing programs and resources to help them safely stay in their homes through accessibility and maintenance upgrades; utilities assistance, and providing food pantry items, including home deliveries, to seniors who simply do not have enough food to eat.
