Geographically, Collingdale is located about 7 miles southwest of Center City, Philadelphia, PA. The borough is currently the 4th largest borough in Delaware County even though it consists of a mere 0.87 total square miles! Originally, the inhabitants of Collingdale were a small amount of families who lived an agrarian life. With the flourishing of the railroad, the borough was developed very quickly as opposed to how it had been settled for many years. On December 23, 1891, Delaware County courts officially granted Collingdale a Charter of Incorporation. By 1894, the borough became much larger after boundaries were chance. Since 1922, the boundaries of the borough have stayed the same.
