Frequently Asked Questions About At-Home Care and Home Health Care
What’s the difference between home health care and at-home care?
Home health care is in-home care that is provided by a certified nurse. This type of care may include physical therapy, nursing care, or recovery care. At-home care is a general term for care that is provided to a client in their own home. Home care can be non-medical or medical and may include personal care services, companionship, and more.

How do you select your caregivers?
We carefully screen each potential caregiver and complete extensive background checks, reference checks, and more. We only hire care providers who are experienced and passionate about helping others. Our caregivers are also trained and insured for your benefit.
How much does home care cost?
Contact us if you would like to learn more about our at-home care pricing. Your costs will depend on the type of care you choose, how often you’ll need care, and if you will be covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or another form of home health care insurance.
When are your services available?
Our at-home care services are available whenever you need them: 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year. We can provide care for just a few hours each week, or around-the-clock care every day. We’ll customize a care plan based on your schedule and needs.
What should families expect during the initial in-home assessment?
At Comfort Keepers of Cumming, the initial in-home assessment is a warm, collaborative conversation—never a clinical or overwhelming experience. One of our care coordinators will meet with your loved one and family to learn about daily routines, health conditions, preferences, and any concerns you may have. We’ll assess the home environment, discuss care goals, and begin shaping a personalized care plan. It’s a chance for you to ask questions, share stories, and get to know how we work. Most importantly, it’s the first step toward building a relationship rooted in trust, compassion, and support.
How do caregivers support a senior’s sense of independence rather than taking over?
Maintaining independence is key to a senior’s dignity and confidence. Our caregivers are trained to encourage participation, not replace it. We gently support where it’s needed—offering a helping hand while promoting self-sufficiency wherever possible. Whether it’s assisting with dressing, preparing meals together, or walking side-by-side for balance, our approach is always respectful and empowering. We believe care is most effective when it helps seniors feel capable, involved, and in control of their day-to-day lives.
Can caregivers help seniors regain skills they may have lost due to illness or injury?
Yes, we can. While we don’t replace medical or rehabilitative services, our caregivers play a valuable role in reinforcing recovery and promoting physical and emotional strength. We assist with exercises prescribed by therapists, encourage mobility and safe movement, and help re-establish daily routines that may have been disrupted. Through patience, motivation, and compassionate support, we help clients rebuild confidence and regain important skills—all within the familiar comfort of their own home.
Do you provide personalized care plans for each client?
Yes! During an in-home consultation, we’ll meet with you and your family to discuss your specific care needs and preferences. We’ll work with you to develop the right plan, schedule, and home health care features based on your needs.
Will my loved one have the same caregiver all the time? We will carefully select a caregiver for each client after discussing their individual needs and preferences. Then, we’ll select a caregiver who can meet those needs and more. If the caregiver is a match for the client, they will remain with that client.
What would happen if their caregiver is sick or is on vacation?
If a caregiver cannot make it to work on a particular occasion, you will hear from our client care coordinator ahead of time. We will arrange for a temporary caregiver to fill in, who will be aware of your care plan and can provide the same great care: (770) 954-8476.
