Dementia Care at Comfort Keepers®

Comfort Keepers® dementia care is dedicated to preserving the happiness and independence of seniors living in their own homes for as long as safely possible. With a trained and dedicated team of care providers ready to meet new seniors, Comfort Keepers offers personal and dementia care in the homes of many seniors across the U.S.

Seniors with dementia who are still living at home may require extra assistance to ensure their safety. In addition to staying safe, seniors with dementia may also appreciate spending time with a caregiver while doing activities that they enjoy and that can stimulate their mental or physical health.

Comfort Keepers caregivers are trained in dementia care and are also trained to implement Comfort Keepers' unique Interactive Caregiving(TM) system. With Interactive Caregiving, the dementia care provider will get to know the senior on a personal level, learning about likes, dislikes and even past events in the senior's life. While developing a relationship with the senior, the caregiver can plan activities that could help the senior simulate mental or physical activities that have been shown to create more lucid thought. The senior and care provider can listen to music together from the senior's favorite era, read an old favorite book or even do memory exercises like looking through family photos or discussing current events.

If the senior doesn't feel like talking, another great form of expression that could be helpful especially in times where words are tough to find is painting or drawing. Both could be fun activities the senior uses to express how he or she is feeling at the time to the care provider.

Another important part of dementia care is nutrition. It's always important to make sure to eat a healthy and balanced diet, and for seniors with dementia that's doubly so. When a senior is no longer able to drive the Comfort Keeper® can go to the grocery store, stock the seniors' cabinets and refrigerator with a balanced diet and also help prepare nutritional meals.
