With that said, I’d like to share with you the cause of one of the biggest frustrations I’ve faced as we have worked with seniors in our community. It is something that I’ve even experienced in my own family and it has nothing to do with the seniors themselves.
Fortunately, this has not been a problem with 99% of the clients we’ve had the privilege to serve over the years. But when the root cause of this frustration occurs, it can be just as sad to witness its affects, as it is frustrating to endure. This root cause is - children who want to control their aged parents, adults, who still have the capacity to make their own decisions. This control manifests itself in many ways.
In the next couple of posts, I will share with you some of my professional and personal experiences with this problem. I understand that for most, this was the first time dealing with an aging loved one and family members may not have been well prepared to face the associated challenges. They struggled to do their best. I also understand that in some families there is a myriad of family dynamics in play. However, I am convinced, that in each frustrating case, these children, in dealing with the situation, have had the best interests of their parent in mind.
My goal is to help our aging parents live the best lives possible. It is my hope that by sharing my experiences and knowledge on this subject, it will help somewhat in accomplishing that goal.
