Frequently Asked Questions About Senior Home Care Services in Hickory, NC

Get you home care questions answered by Comfort Keepers serving Hickory, Lincolnton, Newton, NC and surrounding areas

What is home care and how does it differ from home healthcare?

Though both of these terms can be used to describe all care services provided to a client in their own home, home care typically refers to non-medical care such as homemaking, companionship, or personal care whereas home healthcare is usually associated with services provided by skilled nurses, including physical and occupational therapies.

What services do Comfort Keepers provide?

Comfort Keepers is a provider of non-medical home care services offering customized care plans that usually encompass professional assistance with housekeeping, meal preparation, mobility, errands, shopping, hygiene, transportation, and more. We also offer a range of specialized services such as dementia care, post-hospital care, end of life care, as well as a number of safety products and technology solutions.

How do you select Comfort Keepers?

Each member of our caregiving roster is an employee who was meticulously screened, background checked, and extensively trained before becoming a Comfort Keeper. Moreover, all caregivers are bonded, insured, and covered by Workers’ Compensation insurance too. For your peace of mind, we only work with the most dedicated care experts from local areas.

How much does in-home care cost?

The exact costs of care depend on the client’s specific needs and the duration of care visits. To learn more about our hourly rates and services in Hickory, we encourage you to contact us.

Are services available 24 hours, 7 days a week?

Of course, our home care services are very flexible. They can be arranged for as little or as much as you want, around-the-clock coverage included.

Can you provide services on short notice?

We can. We are well aware that sometimes circumstances force families to seek professional caregiving services in a hurry and when this happens, we are here to meet their needs.

Do you provide services to those in nursing homes or assisted living communities?

Yes, we do. When seniors in facilitated care desire more assistance and attention, our caregivers can provide companionship or personal care to complement the services of a particular institution.

Is there a written plan of care for each client? Do these plans get modified and if so, how often?

Yes. All our offices are instructed to develop customized care plans for each client based on their age, medical history, care requirements, and preferences. Once the senior and their primary caregiver agree with the proposed plan, we arrange for them to meet a referred caregiver from our local team who has all traits to be an ideal match for that particular senior.

Our care plans are usually reviewed at least every six months, but on-demand, they can be evaluated more frequently.

Will I have the same Comfort Keeper all the time?  How will I meet my Comfort Keeper?

Like we mentioned, we will set up an initial consultation during which your assigned client care coordinator will work with you on detailing a care plan best suiting your needs and budget. After that, the client care coordinator selects and introduces a caregiver from our team. Once you approve our referral, that particular caregiver starts providing home care services for your parent.

What if my Comfort Keeper is sick or on vacation?

In situations when an assigned caregiver takes a vacation or calls in sick, the client care coordinator will inform you about the change and propose an interim replacement, which you will first get to meet and approve.

What are ADLs and IADLs?

ADLs or Activities of Daily Living are those activities essential for everyday functioning like eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, mobility, and such.

IADLs, short for Instrumental Activities of Daily Living, comprise of less basic activities that are also important for maintaining a person’s quality of life. This includes homemaking chores, cooking, shopping for groceries, paying bills and utilities, doctor’s appointments, and so on.
