The Donohue’s (Tom, CSA and Mary, RN) Comfort Keepers® Franchise, in the Pittsburgh area was recently named one of the Top Workplaces for mid-size companies by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and a Special Award of Excellence for the “Company’s Direction”. During the 11 years of their franchise ownership the Donohue’s have attempted to value their employees even during training. Twice a year they hold in-services for their employees featuring a banquet dinner with, training, fun and awards. The in-service includes a guest speaker, a silent auction, and a delicious meal… all at no cost to the caregivers.
Skits, depicting the training topic of the evening are performed by volunteer actors (caregivers), who have been known to “ham up” their performances. In addition to the in-services, caregivers are given small gifts (a Comfort Keeper hat, T-shirt, etc.) at their 90-day evaluations to demonstrate how they are appreciated. In the fall, caregivers and their families are hosted at a family picnic and around the holidays they are treated to an open house with door prizes and lots of food for all to enjoy! In addition to the fun dinners and picnics, each week a caregiver is recognized and awarded a gift certificate in appreciation for their efforts!
Tom and Mary and their entire staff, pride themselves on being an embracing workplace for new Comfort Keepers. Even the schedulers, Ginny and Ro, take time when needed to listen, console, and encourage caregivers in not only their work but also in their times of stress.
This was their first year for their office to enter the contest for Top Workplaces and they believe the way their staff bonds with the caregivers gave them the edge to win these special awards. The entire network of Comfort Keepers is proud and congratulates Tom and Mary Donohue and all the employees at the Pittsburgh franchise.
