The Differences of Senior Care from Comfort Keepers
The elder care services of Comfort Keepers differ significantly from those of other in-home care providers. These differences include:
- The genuine caring of our caregivers. To our senior caregivers—Comfort Keepers—caregiving is far more than a job. Caring for seniors is their calling. They bring passion to their work and enjoy the reward of enabling a senior to maintain a high level of independent living at home.
We carefully screen Comfort Keepers candidates. Our first priority is finding people who display a genuine concern for seniors. We start with a phone interview and invite the best for an in-person interview. We also conduct fingerprinting and background checks. And we ask ourselves when we consider candidates: Would we feel comfortable assigning this person to care for a loved one of our own? If the answer is no, we move to the next candidate.
We provide Comfort Keepers an orientation and extensive training in caregiving before assigning them to their first client. In addition, Comfort Keepers complete ongoing training throughout their tenure with us to maintain and strengthen their skills.
- Interactive Caregiving™. This is what we call our distinctive brand of senior caregiving. We’ve developed it based on extensive research that proves the health benefits of keeping seniors actively engaged in life—physically, mentally, socially and emotionally.
Comfort Keepers, by way of Interactive Caregiving, involve seniors in their own care as much as they are able. They also involve their clients in a wide variety of activities that keep them physically and mentally active to elevate their quality of life. Examples of senior caregiving activities include walking and dancing, mentally-engaging activities like favorite hobbies, games and puzzles, and social activities, from visiting friends to going to favorite places, like church, shopping, the library or a senior center. Research proves that this kind of elder care helps seniors enjoy longer, healthier, more independent, and more fulfilling lives.
- Caregiver-client matches. We carefully match each caregiving client with a Comfort Keeper based on their personalities and interests, as well as the special needs of each client and the skills of each Comfort Keeper. Good matches result in optimal caregiving experiences and outcomes for our clients.
Senior Care Services of Comfort Keepers
In partnership with the senior and family we create a customized plan of in-home elder care—from as few as four hours of care a week to full-time, 24/7 care. We provide:
- Companionship Care, including conversation, light housekeeping, meal preparation, assistance with dressing and grooming, reminders to take medication, help with transportation and errands.
- Personal Care, such as personal hygiene to help maintain dignity and quality of life, skin care, toileting and incontinence care, transfers in and out of bed and chairs, help with mobility and feeding.
- SafetyChoice™ by Comfort Keepers supplements the personal caregiving provided by caregivers. These technology solutions are monitored 24/7 at Comfort Keepers’ central monitoring facility. They include a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) and a Medical Management System (MMS). PERS enables seniors to call for help by simply pushing a button in the event of an in-home accident or illness. The MMS reminds seniors to take medication as prescribed, and when they miss a dose, the unit sends out an alert. These devices promote the health and safety of seniors between visits of a caregiver.
- Post-Hospital Care and Support helps seniors and other clients recover and regain strength in the comfort of home after surgery or hospital care for an illness or injury.
- Hospice Support supplements care provided by hospice nurses. Comfort Keepers provide hospice patients in-home supportive services that promote comfort and quality of life.
- Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care services enhance the in-home safety, quality of life and wellness of seniors with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
