What Makes Comfort Keepers Different
Senior care provided by Comfort Keepers stands out from the services provided by other in-home care organizations in three essential ways:
- The quality and dedication of our caregivers. Our caregivers—Comfort Keepers—consider caregiving their calling – not a job. They bring a passion to the in-home care they provide, with a sincere concern for enhancing the lives of the seniors and other adult clients they serve.
We take great care in screening candidates for our caregiving positions, looking for people who exhibit a true gift for senior caregiving. We narrow the field of candidates with an initial phone interview before inviting the best for an in-person interview. All candidates must pass fingerprinting and background checks. If they are not people we would feel comfortable hiring to care for our own parents, they will not become Comfort Keepers.
Before they care for their first client, we provide our Comfort Keepers an orientation and extensive training in caregiving skills. We also provide Comfort Keepers ongoing training to continually strengthen their skills.
- Our unique style of care. We call it Interactive Caregiving™. Based on extensive research, Interactive Caregiving is designed to keep seniors actively engaged in life, physically, mentally, socially and emotionally. Research proves this kind of senior care helps seniors enjoy longer, healthier, more independent, and more fulfilling lives.
Through Interactive Caregiving, Comfort Keepers involve clients in their own care as much as possible. They also involve their clients in a wide variety of activities—based on their clients’ interests and abilities—to keep them physically and mentally active. Such activities may include
physical exercise, such as walking and dancing, mentally stimulating activities to help keep seniors’ minds sharp, such as hobbies, games and puzzles, and social activities, including visits with friends and trips to church, museums, shopping and other places of interest.
- Our ability to match caregivers with seniors. To enhance the effectiveness of our senior caregiving services we carefully match clients with Comfort Keepers, based on their personalities, interests, needs and special skills. Compatibility of clients and caregivers enhances the Comfort Keepers experience and the quality of life of the seniors we care for.
Comfort Keepers’ Services
With the senior and family we develop a customized plan of in-home elder care, scheduling from as few as four hours a week to full-time, 24/7 senior care. Here’s what we provide:
- Companionship Care includes conversation, light housekeeping and meal preparation, help with dressing and grooming, medication reminders, and transportation and errands.
- Personal Care includes such in-home assistance as personal hygiene to maintain a senior’s dignity and quality of life, skin care, toileting, incontinence care, help with transfers in and out of bed and chairs, mobility assistance, and feeding.
- SafetyChoice™ by Comfort Keepers offers technology solutions that supplement the personal caregiving provided by caregivers. These electronic devices, monitored 24/7 at Comfort Keepers’ central monitoring facility, include a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS), which allows seniors to alert help with the push of a button in the event of an in-home accident or illness. We also offer a Medication Management System that reminds seniors to take their medication and sends out alerts when a dose is not taken. These devices promote the health and safety of seniors between visits of a caregiver.
- Post-Hospital Care and Support allows seniors and other clients to recover at home after surgery or hospital care for an illness or injury.
- Hospice Support supplements in-home care provided by hospice nurses. Comfort Keepers trained in the needs of hospice patients offer supportive services that promote clients’ comfort and quality of life.
- Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care enhance the in-home quality of life, wellness and safety of seniors with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia. Specially trained Comfort Keepers provide this care through the stages of dementia.
