Comfort Keepers Elder Care: Without Equal

The quality of our in-home senior care is far superior to that of other agencies for two central reasons:

  • You see it in everything they do; our Comfort Keepers provide senior care earnestly and compassionately, straight from their hearts.
  • Interactive Caregiving, our unique elder care style, means that seniors are engaged in life, brimming with more physical, mental, and emotional vitality than before.

Earnest Senior Caregivers

When recruiting Comfort Keepers our primary goal is to locate candidates who are verifiably enthusiastic about helping seniors and have a strong desire to improve their quality of life.

We are scrupulous about finding the best of the best caregivers for our clients. Each candidate must pass extensive background checks and screenings. But, perhaps more importantly, they must also pass this essential test – Would we be at ease with this person caring for one our own parents? Likewise, we care deeply for our senior caregivers and won’t put them in situations where we wouldn’t put our own sons or daughters.

Our Comfort Keepers are not independent contractors; they are our direct employees. Because of this, we are able to ensure that our seniors are cared for by the most skilled, compassionate people possible.

After being hired, but before beginning work, our Comfort Keepers receive extensive, specialized, and practical training is skill sets such as Alzheimer’s care and dementia care, daily living activities, and home safety.

Furthermore, we guarantee that the caregiving experience will succeed by taking great pains to match clients to just the right Comfort Keepers, basing the decision not only on the client’s personality and needs, but also on the character, skills, training and experience or our caregivers. As an example, many of our caregivers are quite skilled and thoroughly experienced in providing in-home care for those with dementia related conditions.

Our Elder Care Difference: Interactive Caregiving™

Our distinguishing brand of senior homecare, called Interactive Caregiving, is founded on proven research which states that seniors who are actively engaged in the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of life remain healthier, more optimistic, and more independent longer.

Comfort Keepers let seniors engage in their own care as much as is possible. Also, during the routine of daily caregiving, they provide seniors with ample opportunity to participate in enjoyable activities. Examples might include social activities (going to concerts, plays, or church or just visiting friends), mentally stimulating activities (puzzles and hobbies), or physical activities (walking and gardening).

We Team Up with Families

With Comfort Keepers, families can be as engaged in senior caregiving as they desire or are able. Through our respite care services we help families take a needed break from active caregiving. Comfort Keepers are scheduled to come in as they are needed to give the family caregiver a chance to rest, re-energize, work, or handle other responsibilities.

There are some cases where family members live far away and are unable to be regularly involved in caregiving. However, regardless of a family’s level of involvement, Comfort Keepers will keep the lines of communication open so that families are totally aware of any changes to their loved one’s needs or condition.

Our Senior Care Services

Comfort Keepers of Salem provides a wide array of in-home care services, and these can be customized to provide just the right kind and degree of help that a senior needs to live safely and independently. Also, we can schedule a Comfort Keeper for as little as a few hours a week up to full 24/7 in-home care. Our elder care services consist of:

  • Companionship Care would include services like fixing meals, conversation, medication reminders, limited housekeeping, incidental transportation and errand, and limited grooming and dressing assistance.
  • Personal Care makes it easier for clients to retain their dignity. This service includes assistance with skin care, feeding, personal hygiene, toileting, incontinence, and mobility.
  • Meal Preparation gives clients a lot more than just convenience.  When a Comfort Keeper fixes a senior’s meal, he or she adheres to all dietary requirements or constraints so as to guarantee the client follows the nutritious eating habits necessary to healthy living. Caregivers also eat with their clients, offering companionship and boosting the senior’s emotional well being.
  • Respite Care is a service which lets family caregivers take a break from caregiving and perhaps take care of other responsibilities. With this service a Comfort Keeper can come in to offer relief when it is needed.
  • Comfort Keepers’ Technology Solutions by SafetyChoice are a suite of devices, monitored continuously and intended to keep seniors safe when a Comfort Keeper or a family member can’t be present. Hand in hand with personal caregiving, these technology solutions act like a virtual Comfort Keeper. Examples include a PERS (Personal Emergency Response System), which allows seniors to call for help any time with just the push of a button, and a medication reminder device.
  • In-home Safety Assessments are conducted in order to verify that the home is a safe place for the senior to live. Alterations like shower grab bars, first floor bedrooms, and brighter lighting can turn a home into a senior safe haven.
  • Fall Prevention service is provided by Comfort Keepers who are specially trained to help clients reduce the risk of falling. According to the Centers for Disease Control falling is a significant health threat to seniors, because one third of seniors suffers a fall each year. With this service Comfort Keepers will offer advice and suggestions for getting rid of tripping hazards from the home. They also reduce the risk of falling by helping with mobility and transfers, observing for signs of health problems, ensuring proper medication usage, and making sure the senior eats well and gets the right amount of exercise.
  • Mobility Assistance is the service whereby our caregivers help seniors get around safely, both in the home and during outings. Comfort Keepers are specifically trained to watch for clues that a senior might be in need of assistive device like a cane or walker.
  • Post-Hospital Care and Support services aid seniors and others in the recovery and rehabilitation process after coming home from a significant hospital stay or procedure.
  • Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care services are delivered only by those Comfort Keepers who have succeeded with specialized training in how to improve the well-being and safety of those in various stages of a dementia or Alzheimer’s related condition.
  • Hospice and End of Life Care offers Comfort Keepers who provide clients with personal care and companionship services after they have been diagnosed with a lethal condition. This can go hand in hand with nursing care and promote a senior’s comfort and well being.

Allies in Senior Care

We have partnered with several different senior and health care agencies in order to give our seniors a more inclusive variety of services so as to better meet their needs. Among others, we often work with rehabilitation facilities, hospice centers, and skilled home health care agencies. Case in point, we frequently assist seniors, after leaving a rehab facility, to adhere to exercise programs created by a physical therapist.

Also, Comfort Keepers collaborates closely with hospital staff to ensure that seniors make a smooth transition from hospital life to living at home.  We can also help with the opposite process, the transition from living at home to a care facility like independent living, assisted living, or a nursing home. Furthermore, we can offer our services while seniors are living in any of these facilities.
