Home is Becoming a More Common Setting for Senior Care
Comfort Keepers® of Costa Mesa and Newport Beach, California, and surrounding areas is answering the growing preference among older adults to continue living at home as they age, an alternative to moving into residential senior care facilities such as nursing homes and assisted living apartments.
Comfort Keepers brings senior care services to where seniors most want to live—the familiar surroundings of their own homes near the people they love and in the communities with which they have grown accustomed.
In-home senior care, such as that provided by Comfort Keepers, provides supportive, nonmedical services, including companionship, assistance with personal care needs, help with light housekeeping tasks, mobility assistance and more. Services can be customized to each senior client’s needs. Some seniors need only a few hours of assistance a week, while others need help around the clock from live-in caregivers.
In-home senior care also is possible for older adults who have more than nonmedical care needs. Comfort Keepers and other home care providers often work in partnership with home health care agencies that specialize in skilled, home-delivered health care such as nursing and physical therapy.
So, with home care it is possible to receive many of the skilled medical services provided to residents in a nursing home. For instance, home health care nurses can provide medical management of chronic health care conditions such as diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, to help promote seniors’ health and prevent the need for hospitalization.
Senior care provided in the home offers the added benefit of giving family members the opportunity to be directly involved in caregiving, as their schedules and proximity to their loved one permit.
Family involvement in senior care can enhance seniors’ emotional, mental and physical health. And Comfort Keepers can have a positive impact on the health and well-being of family caregivers. Comfort Keepers’ caregivers can be scheduled to allow family caregivers to take breaks from caregiving. Without such breaks, the stress and challenges of senior caregiving can be detrimental to caregivers’ mental and physical health.
