The Comfort Keepers Difference

What makes Comfort Keepers so effective in preserving seniors’ in-home independence? Here are a few significant reasons:

  • Our caregivers truly care: Not everyone is cut out to be a Comfort Keeper—what we call the uniquely gifted people who provide our exclusive brand of elder care. Comfort Keepers have a heartfelt passion for helping seniors realize their desire to live independently in the comfort of their own homes. In-home elder care is what they are meant to do.

To find the right people—with excellent caregiving skills, personal or professional caregiving experience, and integrity—we use a thorough recruiting and screening process. Once we establish that candidates are qualified to be Comfort Keepers, they must pass a series of background checks, including criminal and driving records, to assure our clients’ and their families’ safety and peace of mind. They also must have excellent personal and professional references.

To further set our caregivers apart from the rest, Comfort Keepers provides extensive orientation and training, including training in dementia care. Comfort Keepers also complete ongoing training throughout the year, in person and through newsletters, to further enhance their skills.
  • Interactive Caregiving®: Comfort Keepers’ exclusive brand of senior care, Interactive Caregiving® makes seniors active participants in their care—not recipients. Comfort Keepers involve clients in their own caregiving to help strengthen seniors’ sense of control over their own lives. Comfort Keepers also encourage their clients to participate in a variety of activities to promote their physical, mental and emotional health, such as going on walks, playing games, solving puzzles, engaging in hobbies, conversing, visiting friends and going to church, cultural events, the grocery or a local senior center, for instance.

According to extensive research, this type of elder care improves the health of seniors and promotes independence.

  • Matching clients and caregivers: We make Comfort Keepers care even more effective for seniors by matching new clients with Comfort Keepers for compatibility – based on personality, common interests, special care needs and training.

We Support Families

Comfort Keepers gives families the freedom to be as involved in their loved ones’ senior care as much or as little as they desire or are able. Distance often prevents families from being as involved as they would like. But no matter a family’s level of involvement we offer the peace of mind that our Comfort Keepers share their concern for their loved one.

And for those families who are directly involved in their loved ones’ home care, Comfort Keepers provide respite caregiving, which offers family caregivers time off to rest up and re-energize for a few hours, go on vacation or go to work.

Comfort Keeper Services

From our complete selection of in-home care services, Comfort Keepers tailors a plan of care that provides the exact services needed to facilitate safe, satisfying, independent, in-home living. We can schedule as little as two hours of service a day to 24/7 senior care. You can also call us to schedule periodic care when you need it. Our services include:

  • Personal Care services that preserve seniors’ dignity and advance their quality of life. These include help with hygiene, such as bathing or showering, skin care, grooming, skin care, toileting and incontinence care, help with feeding, mobility in home and out, and help with transferring in and out of a wheelchair, bed and chairs.
  • Companionship Care services provided by a Comfort Keeper, who enriches clients’ lives through activities, conversation and companionship, along with help with meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, assistance with dressing and grooming, medication reminders, errands and incidental transportation, including transportation to doctor’s appointments.
  • Private Duty Nursing, which involves in-home service by a nurse for management of chronic or acute health care conditions, in conjunction with Comfort Keepers’ other in-home services.
  • SafetyChoice® Technology Solutions: These electronic devices, monitored 24/7 at Comfort Keepers’ monitoring station, help keep seniors safe at home between visits by a caregiver.  SafetyChoice® devices include a personal emergency response system that allows seniors to call for help with the push of a button, and a medication management system that reminds seniors to take their medications and alerts caregivers when a dose is missed.
  • Post-Hospital Care and Support provided by Comfort Keepers for clients who have just returned home from surgery or hospital care for an illness or injury.
  • Hospice Care Support, which consists of personal and companionship care provided by Comfort Keepers to promote the comfort and quality of life of hospice patients. These services are provided in partnership with hospice agencies.
  • Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care provided by Comfort Keepers, who are specially trained to recognize the signs of dementia and to partner with families in addressing the needs of seniors and other clients at various stages of dementia, making home a safe, supportive environment for them.
