A Hot dog that Changed a Life  -

A story of committment to the well being of our client through Interactive Caregiving

I was aware that my new client didn't adjust well to new caregivers, however I decided to take her on since I enjoyed a challenge. Additionally, my client Joan was terrified not only of germs but also refused to eat out in public or in front of others.

When Joan was hungry she would send her caregiver in home early because she was not comfortable eating in front of anyone! However Joan enjoyed getting out of the house and going to the mall to shop, especially when she was feeling well enough. However due to her issue concerning to eating in public, she would practically make herself sick from extreme hunger then rush home feeling very sick and her whole day would be ruined, this was her routine for many months.

One day we set out to the mall and Joan said how she wishes she could just sit and enjoy a hotdog and some root beer from A&W. I mentioned that it would be a great idea. I also shared with her how much I truly hated hotdogs,  and if it was the last thing to eat on the planet I would die of starvation first! So I made a promise to Joan that if she would sit down and eat in a public place, that I too would sit and eat a hotdog with her, and so we did.

Joan had such a great day that day and I was thrilled to see her enjoying an experience that had for so many years paralyzed her! I learned something that day, that if a hotdog was the last thing left to eat on this planet that I would still starve to death before I ate another one unless of course it was with Joan joining me for lunch.

From that day on Joan and I together would schedule lunches at new restaurants she for so many years wanted to try, someday we went out and on other days we would enjoy take out and sit together at her house and eat!
What a life changing experience for both of us.

  • They Come to your home and introduce themselves...
  • "I like Comfort Keepers because they come to your home and introduce themselves before bringing a caregiver to meet you in person not just send a stranger to your door.  If you aren’t happy with the person they bring then they will bring someone else until you are satisfied and are sure you are compatible. I like how they call now and then to make sure everything is going ok. They show that they care about you. If your caregiver can’t make it then they are very quick to get someone else to your home. I find great comfort in the companionship I have with my caregiver.  I am so glad that I chose Comfort Keepers." -JH Delta, CO
  • We would recommend their services to anyone...

  • Trustworthy
  • "I found Comfort Keepers a great help right after my hip surgery, for showers, dressing etc. Their help with housework has kept me from worrying about that and from bending over and stressing the hip unnecessarily. I find my caregiver a joy to be around, a willing worker, quick to look for someway to help.  She follows instructions well, keeps the Comfort Keepers rules and is trustworthy" GB Montrose Colorado.

  • "Unfortunately I have had to experience hardship of an elderly parent being diagnosed with terminal illness. As my mother’s care needs intensified, I had the task of either quitting my job and becoming her primary caregiver or hire some outside help to assist me. The Senior Program at the Pavilion in Montrose, recommended Comfort Keepers. My mother arranged for the first caregiver from Comfort Keepers and was matched up with a great person. As the need for more help arose Comfort Keepers was always willing to help find a caregiver or nurse to address the need we had. The Administrative staff was very understanding and always helpful. The caregivers and nurses communicated well and were always polite and genuinely concerned for my mother’s well beind and care. I would recommend Comfort Keepers whether you would need short term or long term care and assistance".- HN Montrose
