The Advantages of Comfort Keepers
The in-home senior care services of Comfort Keepers of Natick surpass those of other providers for two important reasons:
- The genuine caring nature of our caregivers
- The unique Comfort Keepers brand of in-home elder care that our caregivers provide
About Interactive Caregiving™
Interactive Caregiving™ distinguishes Comfort Keepers from all other in-home senior care providers. Through Interactive Caregiving™ our Comfort Keepers enrich the quality of seniors’ lives by encouraging them and helping them stay as active as possible—physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. Comfort Keepers do this by having their clients play as active a role as possible in the activities of daily living and engaging them in activities throughout the day.
Comfort Keepers customize these activities according to each client’s personal interests and abilities, making a special effort to work with each client as a partner. Such senior activities may include walks, solving puzzles, taking part in favorite hobbies, going places like church or the grocery, preparing favorite recipes, visiting friends, or reminiscing.
We have developed our brand of care based on research that shows the positive effects of active living on seniors’ physical and mental health, independence and quality of life.
The Importance of Matching
The effectiveness of Comfort Keepers care is further enhanced by our practice of matching seniors and Comfort Keepers based on their personality, location, care needs, and interests that are identified on profile sheets completed by clients and caregivers. Good matches lead to excellent client-caregiver relationships and excellent results.
A Comprehensive Range of Elder Care Services
Our comprehensive selection of services can be tailored to meet the specific needs of each client and family, from just a few hours a week to full-time care. Our services include:
- Companionship Care, which provides the companionship of a caregiver who assists with meal preparation, light housekeeping, transportation, errands, medication reminders, and dressing and grooming.
- Personal Care, which includes help with bathing or showering, hair and skin care, shaving, toileting and incontinence care, feeding, mobility, and bed and chair transfers and positioning.
- Lifeline® Technology Solutions, electronic devices that complement caregiving services by assuring the health and safety of seniors when a caregiver is away from the home. These technology solutions include a personal emergency response system, which alerts emergency assistance with the push of a button, and a medication management system, which reminds seniors to take their medicine and alerts caregivers when a dose is missed.
- Alzheimer’s and Memory Care provided by Comfort Keepers who have completed special training to promote the safety and quality of life of clients diagnosed with dementia.
- Stroke Recovery, which offers supportive services to help seniors and other clients perform activities of daily living as they regain function following a stroke.
- Post-Hospital Care and Support, which aids clients as they regain strength and mobility after a hospital stay for surgery or treatment of an injury or illness.
- Hospice Care in which Comfort Keepers provide companionship and personal care services as a complement to in-home hospice nursing care.
- Skilled Nursing, a service that sets Comfort Keepers of Natick apart from many other home care providers. Our licensed nurses help clients manage their medical conditions for optimal health.
- Medication Administration, a service provided by our skilled nurses. Hospice agencies that we partner with appreciate this service.
- Geriatric Care Management, provided by Comfort Keepers’ geriatric care manager, coordinates all of the elder care needs of our clients. This is especially helpful for seniors whose families live far away and have difficulty seeing to their loved one’s needs.
- Acquired Brain Injury Core Training. Comfort Keepers has completed the Acquired Brain Injury Core Training for Providers Certification. This qualifies us to deliver home care for those who have suffered a brain injury and also prepares our senior caregivers to help seniors manage the complex disabilities that may be caused by brain injuries
We review each client’s care plan on a regular basis and revise it as needed. And to help meet the complete needs of our clients, we have established a referral network of local health and senior care providers, including home health care, adult day care, nursing homes, rehabilitation programs, assisted living facilities, hospitals, and hospice.
About Our Caregivers
We call our caregivers Comfort Keepers and have developed a thorough recruiting and screening process to find those people who are uniquely gifted to be Comfort Keepers. That is, they have a natural, heartfelt desire to serve seniors and help them maintain a high quality of independent living at home. The bottom line in our selection process is that we hire only people we would be comfortable assigning to care for our own parents.
We begin the screening process with a phone interview to assess those who lack the necessary attributes to be a Comfort Keeper. Next is a face-to-face interview, followed by background and reference checks.
Those who pass these steps in the process are invited to our Comfort Keepers University, a four-day program that helps us and the candidates determine if they have what it takes to be a Comfort Keeper.
If they do, we welcome them as a Comfort Keeper and have them complete an orientation before they care for their first client. Also at this point they complete extensive training to prepare them for the various types of care they will be providing. This includes preparing them to deliver Comfort Keepers’ special brand of in-home senior caregiving, Interactive Caregiving.
