Home Health Care Screening for Caregivers

In Massachusetts, Comfort Keepers®, the professional and compassionate home health care service, is known for its quality senior care.

This quality care starts with Comfort Keepers, the compassionate and highly trained caregivers who work directly with elderly loved-ones. Each caregiver undergoes an extensive background check and thorough training to provide the highest-quality home health care and to ensure that each elderly loved-one is safe, happy and secure, living independently in the comfort of their own home.

Comfort Keepers works to provide the best care for elderly loved-ones, which is why every caregiver is:

  • Thoroughly Screened
  • Highly Trained
  • Carefully Matched with Each Senior
  • Inspected in the Field

This approach has been proven to ensure that each senior experiences a premier elder care service, allowing each family to maintain peace of mind knowing that their elderly loved-one is living comfortably and safely at home.

A Thorough and Extensive Screening Process

Before Comfort Keepers allows a caregiver to begin home health care visits to seniors, they must first undergo a very careful screening process. Comfort Keepers determines if they have three main characteristics:

  • Are naturally gifted for helping others
  • Have a heart for senior caregiving
  • Devoted to professional and compassionate service

Once these have been determined, each potential caregiver must then undergo a rigorous screening process and a rigid interview process. We also have several levels of prescreening programs depending on the skill level and years of experience of the applicant. We have a 1-day, 3-day or 5-day prescreening program.

Different Comfort Keepers staff members interview each candidate face-to-face multiple times. Also, each candidate must successfully pass extensive national and county background checks, as well as a criminal background check. Caregivers must have a clean driving record as well, since they will potentially be driving seniors around on errands, to doctors’ appointments and providing other transport services. Finally, each caregiver must provide satisfactory professional and personal references, which are checked extensively.

The Comfort Keepers screening process is enforced meticulously to identify potential caregivers who are committed to home health care and also to prevent the hiring of people who are not fully devoted to Comfort Keepers’ rigorous standards of compassionate and professional in-home care.

Carefully Matched to Promote Relationships Through Caregiving

When a caregiver is assigned to provide elder care to a senior, Comfort Keepers works to match the interests and personalities of the client with those of the caregiver. In addition, if caregivers are particularly talented or skilled in a certain area, they are matched with seniors who have need of that particular skill. This promotes the most favorable outcome for each senior, and helps caregivers mesh well with their clients, building strong and healthy relationships.
