The Comfort Keepers Difference

Comfort Keepers care is more effective than other home care services in helping seniors maintain a high quality of independent living. Here are a few very important reasons why:

  • The genuine nature of our caregivers: Our caregivers—Comfort Keepers—are natural born senior caregivers. They truly care and have a passion for improving the quality of life of older adults. For them, senior caregiving is much more than a job.

We provide Comfort Keepers an extensive amount of caregiver training to prepare them to provide Comfort Keepers’ special brand of caregiving. However, no amount of training can give people a passion for serving seniors. So, our first goal is finding qualified individuals who already possess this heartfelt passion.

To find these exceptional individuals, we use a rigorous recruitment, screening and hiring process, which includes criminal and driving record background checks, for the safety and peace of mind of our clients and their families.

Before caring for their first Comfort Keepers clients, each of our senior caregivers complete in-office training and pass a series of skills tests. And every other month after starting with us, they complete additional hours of training in specialized areas such as Alzheimer’s care to further enhance their skills. Because our franchise is considered a home health agency by the state of Minnesota, we hire home health aides, who must complete additional training.

  • Interactive Caregiving: This is our distinctive style of caregiving. Backed by multiple studies that show the senior health advantages of active living, Interactive Caregiving keeps our senior clients as active as they are able. Comfort Keepers make seniors active participants in their own care and offer them numerous options for staying active physically, mentally and socially.  For instance, Comfort Keepers involve their clients, based on their interests and abilities, in such activities as walking, board games, puzzles, hobbies, conversation and trips to visit friends, shop for groceries, attend church and cultural events, and more.
  • Matching clients and caregivers: We have a diverse group of Comfort Keepers, which makes it easy to match new clients with compatible caregivers, based on personality and personal interests, as well as specific care needs and caregiving skills. Through an initial one-hour in-home consultation and personality profile we learn a lot about each client to help us make good, beneficial matches.

We Partner with Families

We allow our clients’ families to choose how involved they want to be in their loved ones’ care. Of course, geographic distance often precludes families from being daily caregivers. But regardless of a family’s degree of direct involvement, Comfort Keepers keeps families fully informed about their loved one’s care, progress and changing needs.

Families who are involved in day-to-day caregiving responsibilities appreciate our respite care services in which a Comfort Keeper will come into the home as needed to allow family caregivers to take a restful break, go to work or take care of other responsibilities.

Comfort Keeper Services

We offer a comprehensive range of services that can be customized to fit each client’s needs for in-home assistance, from a minimum of two hours of care a week to 24/7 care. Comfort Keepers services include:

  • Personal Care services, which are intended to improve senior clients’ quality of life and preserve their dignity. These include help with hygiene, such as bathing or showering, skin and nail care, grooming, toileting and incontinence care, help with feeding, mobility in home and out, and help with transferring in and out of a wheelchair, bed and chairs.
  • Companionship Care services include the comforting company and conversation of a Comfort Keeper, who also involves clients in life-enriching activities and assists with household tasks, such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, laundry, help with dressing and grooming, medication reminders, errands and transportation to the doctor’s office and other appointments.
  • Skilled Nursing Care, provided by registered nurses, provides convenient in-home management of medical conditions in the comfort of home, including medication set-up and management along with Comfort Keepers’ other in-home services.
  • SafetyChoice® Technology Solutions, which are electronic devices that supplement caregiving, promoting the safety of seniors when they are home alone between caregivers’ visits. These devices, which are monitored around the clock at Comfort Keepers’ monitoring center, include a personal emergency response system that allows seniors to call for help with the push of a button, and a medication management system that reminds seniors to take their medicine and signals caregivers when a dose is missed.
  • Post-Hospital Care and Support that helps patients recuperate and rehabilitate at home following a hospital stay for surgery or care of an injury or illness.
  • Hospice Care Support in which we partner with hospice nursing agencies to provide companionship and personal care services to uplift the quality of life and comfort of hospice patients.
  • Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care services are provided by Comfort Keepers who have completed special training to make home a safe and beneficial place for care through the various stages of dementia.
