Yesterday we...
Cleaned out an oven and helped a lady put on her shoes
We made cheese grits and wheat toast and helped a gentleman take pills.
We brushed a woman's hair and helped another fold some clothes.
We drove a widow to her husband's gravesite and brushed away the leaves.
Yesterday we...
Baked lasagna and helped pick out a dress
We took a couple to Prayer Meeting on the cold, damp night.
We changed sheets, ate cookies and watched The Price is Right
With a lady who is more lonely than you'll ever know.
Yesterday we...
Wrote a letter to a granddaughter for a lady with advanced arthritis
Then gave her a manicure and painted her nails.
We tucked someone into bed, double checked the locks
And said "good night, you'll be alright, I'll be here in the morning."
Everyday we sit at the feet of those who walked before us.
The trailblazers who paved our pathways.
Everyday we get to hold the hands that built America,
the bridges and skyscrapers, the schools and communities.
Now those hands are wrinkled, the feet tired and less steady.
So in the battle against the inevitable, we fight for the frail, the once mighty.
Compassion is our battle cry and dignity is our banner.
This is what we did yesterday, it's what we'll do today.
We're Comfort Keepers...And everyday we bring dignity to life!
