Comfort Keepers Beverly owners, Warren & Kathy Goodwin

Comfort Keepers’ philosophy spoke to Warren and Kathy Goodwin. When Kathy heard that the mission was to “help people have the highest quality of life that is possible and to treat clients with respect and dignity as though they were members of our own family”, she knew that she had found a “home”, because that was the way that she thought about her work in nursing over the years.

Warren is quick to agree. He has a BS in Business from Eastern Nazarene College, with a graduating paper on the Medicare System and its effect on healthcare. Warren has a strong background in the sciences, having worked as a researcher for 25 years. He has taken additional studies with the Society of Senior Advisors to learn about elderly issues. Warren is a member of the Rotary Club, the Essex County Estate Planners Council and volunteers in his church community.

Kathy is a registered nurse with a degree from the Regents program of the State University of New York. She has worked in many aspects of nursing, including hospital, outpatient clinic, home care, assisted living, and skilled nursing dementia care management. Her vast experience makes her a wealth of information to her clients and their families. Having worked up through the healthcare system— CNA, LPN, then RN, she understands the caregivers who work for her.

She says that her favorite clients are those with dementia due to the challenging thought that goes into making them have a great day everyday. She teaches her caregivers dementia care and has a family caregiver support group at the local council on aging. Kathy volunteers with the Alzheimer’s Association of Massachusetts, and has been on the Alzheimer’s walk committee for 6 years. She has also volunteered with the children of her church community for 35 years.

Kathy and Warren’s dream is to be able to volunteer in third world countries. Their work over the years has taken them to the Dominican Republic three times. Their nature and passion leads them to areas of compassionate care. Kathy says they can’t seem to get away from it no matter what they do. Caring for people is in their blood.
