The Comfort Keepers Advantage
Comfort Keepers distinguishes itself as a leading provider of in-home elder care. Our care stands out in these important ways:
- Our gifted caregivers. We take great care in selecting Comfort Keepers, the people who provide our unique brand of senior caregiving. Comfort Keepers provide elder care from the heart. To them, caregiving is their calling in life; it’s much more to them than a job. They live for the reward of helping seniors realize their desire to continue living independently in their own home.
We carefully screen candidates through reference checks, background checks and interviews to make certain they meet our strict standards. We look for caregivers with good decision-making skills, integrity, a strong work ethic and an engaging personality that promotes effective relationships with senior clients.
Once hired, Comfort Keepers complete training in caregiving skills and Comfort Keepers’ unique style of caregiving—Interactive Caregiving. We provide practical hands-on training and assign caregivers to complete numerous online training modules to fully prepare them. We offer incentives to encourage our caregivers to complete additional training to further broaden their skill base. And in addition to the initial senior care training, we offer Comfort Keepers 20 hours of continuing instruction a year to enhance their caregiving skills. - Interactive Caregiving®. Comfort Keepers’ distinctive brand of caregiving, Interactive Caregiving®, is supported by research that shows the health benefits of seniors staying mentally and physically active. To keep seniors active and engaged in life, Comfort Keepers involve seniors in their own care and offer them regular physical, mental and social activities that bring enjoyment and meaning to life.
Comfort Keepers plan activities around their clients’ personal interests and abilities. Activities may include walks in the neighborhood, puzzle solving, conversation and reminiscing, engaging in hobbies, fixing favorite recipes, visiting friends and making trips to favorite places, such as church, a museum, shopping or a senior center.
Active living helps strengthen seniors’ independence and feeling of control over their lives and enhances their mental and physical health and well-being. - The client-caregiver match. Another key to the success of Comfort Keepers care is our attention to matching seniors with the most compatible caregiver. We make these matches based on common interests, personality, clients’ special needs for assistance and caregivers’ unique set of skills and training. Our scheduler makes certain there’s good chemistry between the client and caregiver. In those few instances when a match doesn’t work, we arrange for a new caregiver.
Partnering with Families
We allow families to choose how involved they wish to be in their loved one’s home care. To help out families who are actively involved in their loved one’s care, Comfort Keepers offers respite care. Respite care enables family caregivers to take time off from caregiving, to get needed rest or take a vacation, to go to work or to attend to other responsibilities.
A Comfort Keeper will take care of the senior while the family caregiver is away. This service provides family caregivers peace of mind that their loved one is in capable care in their absence.
No matter how involved a family is in their loved one’s care, Comfort Keepers maintains strong lines of communication with family members to keep them informed about the care their loved one is receiving and any concerns they may have about the senior.
Comfort Keepers Services
We offer a wide range of in-home senior care services that can be tailored into a plan of care that meets each client and family’s need for assistance. Our services include:
- Companionship Care, which offers seniors the comforting company and conversation of a caregiver, who also assists around the household as needed with light housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation to appointments, running errands, providing reminders to take medicine and helping with grooming and dressing.
- Personal Care tasks, which include help with personal hygiene, such as showering or bathing, skin care, toileting and incontinence care, transferring to and from bed and help getting around the house and in the community.
- SafetyChoice™ by Comfort Keepers offers a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) that enables seniors to immediately summon help with the push of a button in an emergency such as a fall or illness in the home. The PERS, which helps assure the safety of seniors between caregiver visits, is monitored 24/7 at the Comfort Keepers monitoring center.
- Hospice Support provides companionship and personal care services to promote the comfort and quality of life of patients who are receiving hospice nursing care.
- Post-Hospital Care and Support involves in-home caregiving to help individuals recover after release from the hospital for surgery or treatment of an illness or injury.
- Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care services help make home a safe and nurturing place for persons diagnosed with dementia to live.
To make certain that Comfort Keepers care is meeting the needs of clients, we ask our clients complete periodic surveys. Our supervisors check in on a regular basis to make sure clients’ and families’ needs are being met and, when needed, to revise plans of care.
