How Is Comfort Keepers Different?
In quality and effectiveness, elder care provided by Comfort Keepers stands out from that of other providers in very significant ways:
- Truly gifted caregivers. Our caregivers—Comfort Keepers—have an innate gift for helping seniors maintain independent living at home. Senior care is their calling—not a job. They bring true dedication to their profession and it shows in the satisfaction of their clients.
We use a thorough screening process to find candidates who are called to be Comfort Keepers. We also look for people with good decision-making skills, a strong work ethic, a high standard of integrity, and an engaging personality with which to build strong, effective relationships with clients. All candidates must pass reference and background checks, as well as interviews.
Once hired and before they begin caring for seniors, Comfort Keepers complete extensive hands-on and online training to prepare for a wide range of caregiving services delivered in Comfort Keepers’ unique style—Interactive Caregiving®. We also offer incentives for Comfort Keepers to complete additional online training to further broaden their skills.
Annually, Comfort Keepers complete 20 hours of continuing training to maintain and enhance their skills. - Interactive Caregiving®. In keeping with Comfort Keepers’ distinctive style of caregiving—Interactive Caregiving®—our caregivers actively engage clients in activities of daily living, rather than allowing them to be passive recipients of care.
This approach bolsters seniors’ feeling of independence and well-being. Comfort Keepers also regularly provide their clients ways to stay physically, mentally and socially active. They involve clients in activities based on the clients’ personal interests and abilities. Examples of such activities include walking, solving puzzles, playing games, reminiscing, engaging in hobbies, visiting friends and going places, such as shopping, church, visiting friends and attending cultural or social events.
Numerous research studies have shown the health benefits enjoyed by seniors who stay mentally, physically and socially active. - Client-caregiver matches. A key to Comfort Keepers’ success is carefully matching Comfort Keepers and clients based on personality, common interests, elder care needs and the caregiver’s training and skills. We regularly monitor the progress of caregivers and their clients and if a match isn’t working to the client’s or our satisfaction, we match the client with a new caregiver.
Partnering with Families
Comfort Keepers also serves the families of seniors, and we enable each family the flexibility to determine how involved they will be in their loved one’s senior care. We provide respite care services to give active family caregivers time away from the demands of caregiving, to rest for a few hours, to go on a vacation, to go to work or to take care of other responsibilities.
No matter how involved a family is in caregiving, Comfort Keepers maintains regular communications to keep family members up-to-date on their loved one’s care and status.
