The Comfort Keepers Difference
Comfort Keepers stands out from other in-home senior care providers, in quality and effectiveness, because of these important differences:
- Our caregivers truly care. We call our senior caregivers Comfort Keepers®. They possess a true gift for caregiving and a heartfelt desire to serve seniors and help them live safely, happily and independently as possible in the comfort of home. Elder care is not a job to them, but their calling.
To find people with the gift to be Comfort Keepers we have developed a thorough screening process that includes reference and background checks, as well as interviews. In the screening process we also look for caregivers who have good decision-making skills, a strong work ethic, a high standard of integrity, and an outgoing personality that promotes effective relationships with seniors.
Before they begin caring for clients, our Comfort Keepers complete extensive training in caregiving skills and the Comfort Keepers’ unique brand of caregiving—Interactive Caregiving. They complete practical hands-on training and several training modules that prepare them for the complete range of senior care they will be called on to provide. We also offer Comfort Keepers incentives to complete additional online training to further broaden their skills. And each year Comfort Keepers complete 20 hours of continuing training to enhance their skills. - Interactive Caregiving®. Comfort Keepers’ special brand of elder care, Interactive Caregiving®, promotes the well-being and independence of seniors like no other in-home care. Through Interactive Caregiving®, Comfort Keepers allow their clients to be active participants in their caregiving, rather than passive recipients.
Comfort Keepers provide seniors opportunities to stay physically, mentally and socially active, based on their clients’ personal interests and abilities. For instance, activities may include walking, playing games, solving puzzles, reminiscing, engaging in hobbies, visiting friends and going to favorite places, like a concert, church, a museum, shopping or a senior center.
Interactive Caregiving® is supported by research that shows the health benefits of seniors staying mentally and physically active. As it brings enjoyment and meaning to their lives, this type of care strengthens seniors’ sense of independence and control over their lives. - Matching clients with caregivers. Compatibility of caregivers and clients is a key to the effectiveness of in-home senior care. It’s why we give special thought to matching each client with a caregiver based on personality, interests, specific elder care needs and the caregiver’s training and skills. Once a match is made we check to make sure it is working well. In those few cases a match doesn’t work, we quickly arrange for a new caregiver.
Partnering with Families
We leave it up to families how involved they will be in their loved one’s day-to-day care. Comfort Keepers provides respite care services to provide active family caregivers a chance to take time off from caregiving, to go to work, get some rest, go on vacation or attend to other matters.
We also keep families—including those who live away from the senior—informed about their loved one’s care. Most important, we provide families peace of mind that their loved one is in good care when they can’t be with them.
A Wide Range of Services
Comfort Keepers offers a comprehensive range of services that can be tailored to meet each senior’s need for in-home assistance:
- Companionship Care, which provides company and conversation to brighten the lives of seniors. At the same time our caregivers assist their clients with household services such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, transportation and errands, medication reminders and help with grooming and dressing.
- Personal Care, helping seniors with personal hygiene, such as bathing or showering, skin care, incontinence care and toileting, mobility assistance in the home and out in the community, and transferring in and out of bed and chairs to promote health and safety.
- SafetyChoice™ by Comfort Keepers, which promotes the safety and well-being of seniors between visits by a caregiver. The SafetyChoice Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) allows seniors to quickly call for help, with the push of a button, when they fall or become ill at home. The PERS is monitored around the clock at the Comfort Keepers monitoring center.
- Hospice Support provides caregiving services that enhance the comfort and quality of life of seniors and other clients who are receiving hospice nursing care.
- Post-Hospital Care and Support provides caregiving to help individuals recover at home following a hospital stay for surgery or treatment of an illness or injury.
- Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care services assure the in-home safety and well-being of persons through the various stages of dementia.
To make certain we satisfy our clients’ needs for excellent in-home senior care, we ask our clients to complete a periodic survey. In addition, our supervisors check in with clients and their families to find out if there’s anything we can do to better meet their needs.
