Specially Tailored Care
To develop a personalized program of home care for each client, Comfort Keepers starts by providing a free in-home consultation. We meet with the client and their loved ones to find out their needs and get to know the client’s interests and personality. This helps us find the best, most compatible caregiver. From experience, we know that a good match between client and caregiver results in a strong relationship that benefits the client in terms of good physical, emotional and mental health, which promotes the client’s ability to continue living independently.
We allow family and loved ones to be as involved in the in-home care process as they wish. Once a client begins receiving Comfort Keepers care, we keep families informed every step of the way—as much as they want us to. When we see that changes in senior care are needed to meet a client’s changing status, we contact the family and explain why we believe changes in care would be beneficial.
To give family members the assurance that their loved one is receiving the best of care, we maintain regular oversight of caregivers, schedule regular supervisory visits to client’s homes each month and collect regular feedback from clients and caregivers. In this way, we regularly assess home care plans to make certain they are effectively helping each client maintain independent living at home.
Alzheimer’s/Dementia Care
Comfort Keepers provides for the special needs of clients with Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease through our Memory Care program. We maintain on staff Certified Nursing Assistants or Certified Home Health Aides who have completed additional training in Dementia and Alzheimer’s. We match clients with caregivers who are best suited to provide for their specific senior care needs. Our training in Alzheimer’s and Dementia care gives caregivers in-depth understanding of how to communicate with, respond to, and care for persons with these conditions.
Memory care can be scheduled for as little as an hour or two a week to as much as full-time. We can schedule a caregiver to stay in the client’s home overnight. This enables family members to get the rest they need to promote their own well-being and maintain the energy necessary to care for their loved one.
Technology Solutions
Comfort Keepers offers the following innovative technologies that enhance clients’ in-home care:
Comfort Keepers’ SafetyChoice™ Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) gives families peace of mind while enabling clients to continue living independently in their own home. At the push of a button on a pendant or bracelet, a client can immediately summon help in the event of a fall or other emergency. The PERS system is monitored 24 hours a day by specially-trained personnel at the SafetyChoice monitoring center. The alert may also go out to 911 and family members. While helping clients maintain freedom and independence in their own home the PERS gives family members the security of knowing their loved will get immediate attention when needed.
Our computerized tracking system helps assure families their loved ones are getting the best possible in-home senior care. The system automatically e-mails care schedules to families so they know which caregiver is caring for their loved one on any given day. This system also alerts our Comfort Keepers office when a caregiver does not arrive within five minutes of a scheduled appointment. This is a value-added service that frees families and clients from having to supervise in-home care themselves.
The MD2 medication management system helps ensure that clients take their medications as prescribed and avoid the negative health risks associated with prescription noncompliance. Taking medication on schedule can be easy to forget, but the MD2 system can be set like an alarm clock to sound when it’s time for each dose. A family caregiver or pharmacist loads the MD2 with pre-measured medications and then sets the machine to sound a reminder at the appropriate times. When the MD.2 sounds, the client presses a button that dispenses a container of medication he or she is to take at that time. When no one responds to an alarm, the MD.2 automatically alerts a family caregiver or other designated person who follows through and makes sure the medicine is taken.
