Caregiving from the Heart

When we recruit caregivers, we look specifically for candidates who demonstrate a heartfelt concern for seniors and their need and desire to live fulfilling, independent lives in their own homes. We ask ourselves, when interviewing candidates, whether we would be comfortable assigning them to care for one of our own loved ones. If our answer is no, we continue searching for a caregiver who meets our exacting standards.

Our thorough screening process helps assure that we employ only the most qualified, caring individuals as Comfort Keepers. Candidates must pass background checks and must have some degree of senior care experience. We employ certified nursing assistants (CNAs), who are licensed to provide medical care. Because of this, our Comfort Keepers office is considered a home health care agency.

Once we have hired them, we provide our Comfort Keepers about 27 hours of training. Much of this training is practical, in the home and alongside our experienced caregivers. And each year, Comfort Keepers must complete an additional six to ten hours of training to further develop their skills.

Interactive Caregiving™

We customize care to provide each client the specific care they require to maintain independent living at home. By way of Interactive Caregiving™ we further tailor each senior’s care through a creative blend of routine personal and companionship caregiving services with activities that actively engage seniors in their own care. These activities vary from one client to another to reflect their interests and abilities.

Examples include physical activities like walking or dancing; conversing and reminiscing; cooking; working on mentally-stimulating puzzles; pursuing cherished hobbies;  going to favorite places like cultural events, church, the grocery or a senior center; and visiting friends. These activities enrich seniors’ lives as they provide health-promoting physical, mental, social and emotional stimulation.

A Partnership

Comfort Keepers partners in caregiving with our clients’ families. We offer families the freedom to be as involved in their loved one’s care as they choose and are able.

For families who have a high degree of involvement in their loved one’s care, we offer respite care. Respite care gives family caregivers a chance to get away and relax or take care of other responsibilities while a Comfort Keeper cares for their loved one.

Geographic distance often prevents family members from being actively involved in their loved one’s care. But no matter how involved family members are in day-to-day caregiving, Comfort Keepers keeps them well informed about their loved one’s care and changes in status.

We offer prospective clients and their families a free in-home assessment to help determine whether Comfort Keepers is the solution for them. This assessment also helps us develop a customized care plan, which can be updated and revised as needed to help preserve a senior’s independence as his or her needs change.

Comfort Keepers Services

Comfort Keepers of Orlando offers a wide range of in-home care services. We tailor them to provide for the specific needs of each client and family and can schedule as few as four hours of care a week to full-time, 24-7 care:

• Personal Care. Designed to help preserve a senior’s dignity and quality of life, these services assist with such needs as hygiene and grooming, dressing, toileting and incontinence care, mobility, and transferring safely in and out of chairs and bed.
• Companionship Care. Providing seniors much needed conversation and companionship, these services also include help with light housekeeping, medication reminders, meal preparation, errands and transportation, and minor assistance with dressing and grooming.  
• SafetyChoice Technology. Monitored 24/7 by Comfort Keepers’ central monitoring facility, the SafetyChoice personal emergency response system (PERS) helps seniors stay safe at home when caregivers aren’t present. The PERS is equipped with a button that seniors press to alert emergency help in case of an accident or illness.
• Post-Hospital Care and Support. This in-home assistance helps seniors and other adults recover after a hospital admission for surgery, injury or illness.
• Hospice Care. As a supportive supplement to hospice nursing care, Comfort Keepers provide clients companionship and personal care services.

A Complete Care Solution

Comfort Keepers develops and maintains partnerships with other health and senior care providers to offer seniors and their families a complete care solution. These other providers include assisted living, nursing homes and hospice agencies.
