Comfort Keepers Care from the Heart

When we screen job candidates, we select only people who exhibit a sincere concern for helping seniors live fulfilling, independent lives in the comfort of home. When we interview a candidate, we ask ourselves if we would feel comfortable if this individual were caring for a loved one of our own. If the answer is no, we keep looking.

We have developed a thorough screening process that allows us to hire only the most qualified, caring people as Comfort Keepers. We require candidates to have some level of senior care experience, and they must pass a number of background checks. We employ certified nursing assistants (CNAs), who are licensed for medical care, and as such, our Comfort Keepers office is considered a home health care agency.

Once hired, Comfort Keepers must complete about 27 hours of training, much of it hands on, in the home and alongside experienced members of our team. Our caregivers also must complete six to ten hours of continuing training each year to further develop their skills.

About Interactive Caregiving™

Comfort Keepers individualizes care to meet the specific needs of each senior we care for. Interactive Caregiving™ allows us to further tailor care by creatively blending typical personal and companionship caregiving services with activities that match their interests and abilities.

Such activities may include walks; conversing and reminiscing; working on mentally-stimulating puzzles; pursuing hobbies;  preparing a favorite recipe; going to favorite places like church, shopping, concerts or a senior center; and visiting with friends. These activities engage seniors physically, mentally, socially and emotionally, and enhance their independence and enjoyment and quality of life.

Partnering with Families

At Comfort Keepers we allow families to be as involved in their loved one’s home care as they desire or are able. For families who choose to be significantly involved in caregiving, we offer respite care. In such cases, our Comfort Keepers come into the home as needed, allowing a family caregiver an opportunity to get away for a few hours of rest or a vacation, or to attend to other responsibilities. Comfort Keepers gives family caregivers the peace of mind that their loved one is in good company while they’re gone.

In many cases, geographic distance from a loved one or demanding work and personal schedules make it difficult for family members to provide care. But even then, Comfort Keepers keeps family members fully informed of their loved one’s senior care and status.

And this plan of care can be updated as needed to continue helping preserve a senior’s independence at home as his or her needs change.

The Senior Care Services of Comfort Keepers

Comfort Keepers of Altamonte Springs offers a comprehensive array of in-home care services to meet the needs of each of our senior clients and their families. These services can be customized to meet each senior’s needs, from as few as four hours a week to full-time, 24-7 care:

• Personal Care. These services help preserve seniors’ dignity and quality of life, assisting them with hygiene and grooming, dressing, toileting and incontinence care, mobility, and transferring safely in and out of chairs and bed.
• Companionship Care. These services help promote seniors’ physical, mental and emotional health, while providing them conversation and companionship in addition to help with light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders, transportation, errands and standby help with dressing and grooming.  
• SafetyChoice Technology. The SafetyChoice personal emergency response system (PERS) helps seniors stay safe between a caregiver’s visits. With the push of a button, a senior can use the PERS to alert help in the event of an accident or illness. The PERS is monitored around the clock at Comfort Keepers’ central monitoring facility to provide immediate help.
• Post-Hospital Care and Support. Comfort Keepers provides in-home assistance for seniors and other adults while they recover following a hospital stay for surgery, injury or illness.
• Hospice Care. In partnership with a hospice care agency, Comfort Keepers provide companionship and personal care services for clients in the care of hospice nurses.

Partnering with Other Services

To offer seniors and families a more complete care solution, Comfort Keepers builds and maintains partnerships with other senior and health care providers in the community, such as assisted living, nursing homes and hospice agencies.
