Our Comfort Keeper story……….

My husband’s aunt lived in Plymouth, Indiana and was ninety.  She was mentally sharp, loved Indiana University basketball and knew which banks had the best interest rates on her CD’s, but unfortunately she was stricken with macular degeneration.  Matt and I tried to visit her every Saturday to help with housekeeping and bill paying.  We knew if our aunt needed help, there had to be many others in the same situation.

Matt was searching for business opportunities and came upon Comfort Keepers.  We realized that Comfort Keepers would allow us to indulge in our love for seniors.  We felt that this could be not only a business but a ministry.  Matt kept his job and I launched the business.  We opened in September 2001.
There have been many families that we have helped over the years, each with their own story and situation.  It is such an honor and privilege to care for our clients.  It is also a huge responsibility; one that we do not take lightly.

Matt now works full time in the business, and we added Brenda Tunin as our director of Client Care.  Brenda is an RN with over 30 years of experience and is in charge of all aspects of client care and training.

There are many things that set us apart from our competition.  One is the quality of our caregivers.  We hire caregivers who genuinely have a heart for seniors.  If Matt and I would not feel comfortable bringing an employee into our own home we would not send them into your home!!  We do a nation-wide Criminal Background check on every employee.  No criminal record is allowed.  Another thing that differentiates us is that we provide “Heart to Heart” care giving.  Our caregivers don’t just go in and perform the required tasks; they get to know our clients and try to make a positive difference in their lives.

In eight years we have gone from a handful of caregivers to a staff of 90 caregivers and an office staff of six.

I host a live talk program on WOWO every Sunday at noon called “Heart to Heart”. The website to listen live is www.wowo.com
