More than 15 years ago, Sofiya Abil’s father-in-law had a severe stroke. Having full-time jobs, raising two children and having another two elderly parents in the family, it was impossible to provide adequate care for him. The family was in crisis. Then the solution was found when Sofiya and her husband hired Vera, an in-home caregiver, through an agency. Vera’s love and professionalism made all the difference. Thanks to Vera, Sofiya was able to keep her father-in-law at home for six more years. Today, Vera is still with the Abil family taking care of Sofiya’s mother-in-law and has become a close family friend.
During this long battle Sofiya and her family went through all the struggles of caring for an elderly parent; from panic to eventually finding the right solution. Since then, Sofiya has been dedicated to helping other families looking for a solution to fit their situation.
After going through the process of hiring a caregiver for someone in her family, Sofiya opened her own Comfort Keeper’s office in the North Shore area of Chicago. Since opening her first office in 2001, Sofiya has expanded her territory to include all of the North Shore area and the Northern Suburbs of Chicago ranging from Lake Forest and Vernon Hills to Park Ridge and Evanston.
Now in the 10th year of serving the area, the North Shore/Wheeling Comfort Keepers continues to give excellent service to its hundreds of clients.
