We have developed an extensive screening and interviewing process to find caregivers who meet our high standards. The process consists of national background checks and personal and professional references. In addition, each candidate must pass this critical test to be hired: Would we feel comfortable having this person as our own loved one’s caregiver?

Before they begin caring for clients, Comfort Keepers complete an orientation on our special brand of in-home care, Interactive Caregiving. They also complete extensive caregiver training, which includes the care of people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Comfort Keepers also complete in-service trainings twice a year, as well as specialized training in elder abuse, hospice and Alzheimer’s awareness.

To enhance the effectiveness of our caregiving services, we take special care to match our clients and caregivers for compatibility. We base this match on several criteria, such as personality  mutual interests, clients’ needs and caregivers’ special skills. From experience, we know that good matches lead to comfortable caregiver-client relationships that promote positive results for clients and their families.

To make certain that the caregiving relationship is on the right track, our Client Advocate meets with clients two weeks after caregiving begins. If changes are needed, we make them at this time. There is no additional charge for this service. Our supervisors maintain contact with families and clients to continually monitor progress and modify the caregiving plan when needed to promote independence.

Interactive Caregiving™, Comfort Keepers’ distinctive style of in-home care, actively involves seniors in the activities of daily living.  Our caregivers—Comfort Keepers—encourage their clients to do as much for themselves as they are able—to advance their level of independence and quality of life.

Comfort Keepers also involve clients in a wide range of physical, mental and social activities to give them purpose, meaning and a sense of control over their lives. Comfort Keepers select activities based on their clients’ interests and abilities, such as walking or dancing, playing games and working on puzzles or hobbies, conversing and reminiscing, visiting friends, going shopping, and going to favorite places, such as church  or a senior center. Interactive Caregiving is designed to promote seniors’ overall well-being.

With Comfort Keepers, families may choose to be as directly involved in their loved one’s care as they desire or are able. No matter how active a family is in the caregiving process, Comfort Keepers stays in close communication to fully inform them about their loved one’s care and changes in status so they can make decisions as needed.

We assist family caregivers through our respite care service. Respite care gives family caregivers a temporary break from caregiving. A Comfort Keeper comes into the home to care for a senior, on an as-needed basis, to allow the family caregiver to get needed rest for a few hours, go on a vacation or take care of family or work responsibilities.

Comfort Keepers offers a wide range of in-home care services that can be customized to meet the specific care needs of each client. And we can schedule as little as one hour of service a week to 24/7 care. Services include:

• Hospice Care—supportive services that promote quality of life and comfort, complementing skilled nursing care provided by a hospice agency.
• SafetyChoice^® by Comfort Keepers—technology solutions that are monitored by Comfort Keepers’ monitoring center to assure safety of seniors when caregivers are not with them. These  include a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS), which allows seniors to call for help 24 hours a day with the touch of a button and a Medication Management System that reminds seniors to take their medications. The Medication Management System also alerts caregivers when doses are not taken.
