About Our Home Care Services

Our Process is Easy

Once you’ve initially identified the need for additional help in the home, the next step is our free in-home assessment. A sense of relief will follow, as this meeting will likely shed a new light on many favorable elder care solutions. You are always welcome to be as involved as you’d like, and communication with us is as easy as picking up the phone - any day, any time.

Our Plan of Care for You

Our observations may be seamless to you, but our intake nurse pays specific attention to the significant diagnoses and conditions of your elderly loved-one and integrates them into the best possible care practices.  Every caregiver at Comfort Keepers is kept abreast of the your senior’s service care plan, as well as any requests from your family, physician and home medical team.

We are concerned, not only about the client’s illness, but also about their wellness, which is why we follow the Comfort Keepers Interactive Caregiving® model to engage our senior clients physically, mentally, socially and emotionally.

Our Quality Promise to You

Screened, Bonded, Insured & Employed

To become a part of the Comfort Keepers team, potential caregivers must pass a rigorous screening process, which includes background checks at the local and national level. Each caregiver is fully covered regarding bonding insurance and Workman’s Comp. And Comfort Keepers takes sole responsibility for payroll taxes and deductions for every employee.

On-Time Arrivals

We use a real time clock-in and clock-out system that allows each caregiver to ‘punch in’ from the client’s home (toll-free). If a caregiver is over 10 minutes late, the office pager is alerted, and the matter is immediately handled.

Online Access

When you begin a senior care service plan with Comfort Keepers, you will be given personal online access to the senior’s service schedule, allowing the entire family to stay informed no matter what area code they live in.

A Little Bit About You…

Care of the Senior Citizen

The population has issues that are unique to the older adult.  A logbook is introduced, if approved by the family. Examples of concerns:

  • Malnutrition, which is sometimes difficult to spot, can lead to a compromised immune system. Our caregivers play a key role in the early intervention of nutritional problems by assisting seniors with feeding, offering a variety of favorite foods and shopping for, or with, the senior client.
  • Personal hygiene, while commonly lacking, could help to prevent infections especially in the incontinent adult. A protocol of showering, toileting and brief change/hygiene is established and documented.
  • Medication noncompliance can be a dangerous issue among seniors and is directly addressed. SafetyChoice® is one service that, among other things, ensures safe and effective medication administration.  Feel free to call us about the Personal Emergency Response Systems and other senior care technology solutions available from Comfort Keepers.
  • Prevention of falls is paramount in elder care. Our falls-risk tools address such deficits as impulsivity, altered elimination; unsteady gait, and mental status changes.  Walk aids, a gait belt and good lighting are great starting points for this discussion.

Care of the Client with Disabilities

We have had the benefit of providing in-home care to clients with a variety of disabilities, including physical, sensory, psychiatric, and neurological. While many seniors have required around-the-clock care; some wish simply a bath visit.  Disability care issues to be addressed:

  • Transferring and functional abilities
  • Communication
  • Intricate medication regimens
  • Specific nutritional needs
  • Prevention of elimination issues
  • Interests, physical activity

A key benefit of our disability senior care plan focuses on the senior’s ability to take the initiative to be as socially and physically active as possible. Through a disability care plan, seniors are permitted to enjoy increased mobility, better circulation and a healthier outlook on life.

Care of the Client Recently Discharged from the Hospital or Rehab

Screening criteria for our recently discharged clients includes activity level, diet, strengths, limitations and need for follow-up care.  Let the caregiver be a resource for you to help you create the ideal transition from hospital to home.

Our senior care service plan is designed to coordinate with the client’s individual condition.  A logbook is kept in the home, per family approval.  An example of issues to be addressed:

  • CHF – this client might be instructed to log their daily or weekly weight, along with dietary intake, liquid intake, urine output and activity level.
  • Diabetes – this client will need adequate lighting in their home, as well as frequent inspection of their feet and footwear.  Of course, dietary compliance is encouraged.
  • COPD – this client is at risk for lack of oxygen, which can lead to dizziness and falls. This elder care plan would include sitting at the edge of the bed or chair a bit, before rising.

Care of the Client on Hospice

The focus of hospice care is unique and specific to each individual, whether in the home or in a facility and may involve bathing, repositioning and dressing. Senior care providers may also read aloud to your loved one or help them participate in religious customs.

You may be a primary caregiver and in need of some relief, or Respite Care.  Whether you need a short bath visit or around-the-clock care, Comfort Keepers will help you customize a comfortable senior care plan for your loved one. We are committed to supporting your family in this time of need, so that you may spend more quality time with a loved one, leaving the work to us.

At Comfort Keepers, our hospice caregivers are individually trained, selected by their resolve to promote dignity and respect to both the hospice care recipient and family. To be a part of our hospice team, each caregiver consistently demonstrates their innate ability to deliver hospice care in a calm, compassionate manner.

Care of the Client Seeking Companionship Care

While our caregivers provide typical custodial care to many Ann Arbor senior clients, they also do so much more. With companionship care from Comfort Keepers, seniors and their caregivers attend lectures, theater performances and more. You can have peace of mind, knowing you’re your elderly loved-one is in good hands.
