San Fernando Valley In-Home Care
Serving Seniors throughout Encino, Woodland Hills, Sherman Oaks, Tarzana, Van Nuys & Surrounding California Communities
Comfort Keepers® sets the standard for quality in-home care for seniors and other adults. What sets our services apart from care provided by others? First, our caregivers—we call them Comfort Keepers—have an innate, heartfelt gift for serving and enhancing the lives of seniors. Second, is our unique system of in-home senior care: Interactive Caregiving, which actively involves seniors in their own care. This approach gives seniors renewed purpose and promotes their confidence, independence and quality of life.
Comfort Keepers Care from the Heart
Our priority in hiring Comfort Keepers is finding people with prior caregiving experience, and for whom caring is second nature. Many of our Comfort Keepers currently or have been certified nursing assistants, home health aides or licensed vocational nurses. They enjoy the reward that comes from helping a senior maintain independence in the comfort of home, where they most desire to live.
Before they are hired, Comfort Keepers candidates undergo a rigorous screening process of background checks and interviews to make certain they meet the stringent requirements of being a Comfort Keeper. And each candidate we interview must pass this important test: Would we feel comfortable if this person were caring for one of our parents?
Before serving clients, Comfort Keepers complete nine hours of orientations so they thoroughly understand the Comfort Keepers brand of care. They also complete extensive training at the start, as well as ongoing training during their service with us, and we provide training to family members as needed.
The success of Comfort Keepers is enhanced by our system of matching clients and caregivers based on their interests, personalities, caregivers’ special skills and clients’ needs. And once a client and caregiver are matched and the caregiving begins, our supervisors stay in contact to make certain the caregiving relationship is working well and to make changes when needed.
What Is Interactive Caregiving™?
Through Interactive Caregiving™ our caregivers weave activities into the routine of personal and companionship caregiving to engage seniors, physically, mentally, socially and emotionally.
Comfort Keepers allow their clients to do as much for themselves as they are able, and they involve their clients in other activities based on their interests and abilities—for instance, working on puzzles, playing games, going on walks, reminiscing, preparing a meal, visiting friends, going to the grocery and working on a hobby. The possibilities are endless—anything that brings enjoyment to the senior and enhances their life physically, mentally, socially and emotionally.
Partnering with Families
Comfort Keepers leaves it up to families how involved they wish to be in their loved one’s care. We provide respite caregiving services for those who are involved daily, to allow them time for needed rest so they can return to caregiving with renewed energy.
In other cases, families may live far away or have demanding work or family schedules that limit the time they can devote to caregiving. In any case, we stay in close communication with families to keep them up to date about their loved one’s care.
Comfort Keepers Services
Comfort Keepers provide you or a loved one in-home assistance that may include:
- Personal Care. This may include hands-on assistance with bathing or showering, grooming, skin care, toileting and incontinence care, feeding and help with mobility and transfers.
- Companionship Care. This type of care may consist of conversation, preparing and sharing meals together, light housekeeping, reminders to take medications, standby help with dressing and grooming, transportation and errands.
- Alzheimer’s, Dementia and Parkinson’s Care. Comfort Keepers who have received special training provide care for seniors with these conditions, to promote their quality of life and safety.
- Post-Hospital Care and Support. Comfort Keepers assist in at-home recuperation following a client’s stay in the hospital for surgery or treatment of injury or illness.
- Hospice Care. Comfort Keepers who have received special training in the needs of clients receiving hospice care provide supportive services to promote their quality of life and comfort.
- Medication Management. Comfort Keepers offer clients reminders to take their medication and provide medicine boxes to help assure they take their medicine on time and as prescribed. We also pick up prescriptions from the pharmacy.
- Respite Care. Comfort Keepers come into the home to relieve family caregivers so they can get away to take care of responsibilities or just take time off from caregiving for needed rest.
