Home Care Specialists: A Growing Industry

Did you know that in-home elder care is one of the fastest growing medical industries right now? This field is not only in high-demand, but it can be very rewarding. Every day, Comfort Keeper caregivers have the opportunity to care for and bond with each client, establishing lasting relationships and providing helpful care. Do you have a natural gift for taking care of others and do you have a heart for caregiving?  Comfort Keeper franchises are constantly looking for caregivers to join this exciting and growing industry of home care for seniors. This article will outline some of the principle functions of caregivers.

Essential Functions of Caregivers

Comfort Keepers works with each senior and family to determine the amount of assistance needed. A Plan of Care is then created, which details exactly what caregivers will provide.

Our home care specialists work to help clients in daily activities by caring in activities such as:

  • Feeding
  • Ambulation
  • Bathing
  • Dressing
  • Toileting
  • Grooming
  • Oral hygiene
  • Bathing
  • And more

Caregivers also help seniors with light housekeeping tasks, such as changing bed sheets and helping with laundry. As a caregiver, you may help to create and maintain a healthy, safe and clean environment for seniors and their families. You may also help by cooking, grocery shopping, doing dishes, meal planning and other tasks related to ensuring that your senior is getting their proper nutrients. Clients may need to be driven places and caregivers help the family by providing ambulation and transfers. Many seniors are unable to properly take their medications or they forget. Caregivers remind clients to take important self-administered medications.

Caregivers also provide a vital front line defense because of their ability to observe seniors on a regular basis. If there are any changes in a senior's condition, either physically, emotionally or mentally, caregivers report these observations to their immediate supervisor. This ensures that a dangerous condition will not go untreated. Finally, home care specialists are expected to establish and maintain a professional relationship with co-workers, seniors and their families
