What Is Comfort Keepers?

Comfort Keepers is a company that offers quality in-home care to seniors. Every one of the more than 700 Comfort Keepers locations is its own business. Our commitment remains the same: to help people live better lives. We’re a community of full of compassion that spans the entire globe.

We only hire the best to be caregivers because that's what our clients deserve. We want to give clients the same level of care we offer to our own loved ones.

What Tasks Would I Perform?

This depends on your skills, availability, and the position that you desire. Some of our caregivers act only as companions for our clients. This means spending time with them and performing light tasks when needed. Other clients need extra support, such as caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or another health condition. Every open position listed in our career center will describe the requirements of the job.

Every client has a unique care plan that is tailored to his or her particular needs, where we list the services we provide. Before accepting a client, your supervisor will go over this list with you.

Our most important job, no matter who our client is, is to be there for them. The role of the caregiver is an important one. Clients depend on us to help them live a more enriched and fulfilling life. This is why we’re proud to call ourselves Comfort Keepers®.

What Is a Supervisor?

Your supervisor is the person at your local office who matches you with your clients. He or she will answer your questions and track your performance.

What Is a Plan of Care?

Every client receives a plan of care. This document outlines your duties and responsibilities to the senior that is in your care. We believe that caring for our clients is about more than performing tasks for them. The plan of care includes activities designed to promote a healthy body and mind.

Can I Work in My Home Town?

We have more than 700 offices worldwide, including many offices in every state. View our career portal to find the office closest to you.

Do I Need Any Special Training?

As a caregiver, the most important thing for you to possess is compassion.  We want caring individuals, and will train them with the skills that they need to perform their jobs. Our entry level caregiver positions do not require any special training before applying. We will help you learn the skills that you need to succeed.

Some towns or states might require caregivers to have special certifications. Check with your local office to see if this is necessary for you. If you do need training, your local office can help you get certified.

If you want to grow in your career with us, we offer many online courses and certification options.

How Far Will I Have to Travel?

Most Comfort Keepers locations cover a small number of towns or counties. This allows them to provide immediate care to their clients. It also allows our caregivers to work within a close distance to where they live. The page for your local office will list all the communities it covers.

Do I Need to Provide Transportation?

Yes, you need a valid driver’s license to be a caregiver. Part of your duties might include driving your client to health appointments, social events, or to go shopping. You may also need to run errands for them. Having a reliable vehicle is a critical part of being a caregiver.

Will I Get Compensated for Mileage?

Yes, mileage compensation for transporting your client is one of the benefits we offer.

Am I covered if There Is an Accident on the Job?

Yes. We offer workers compensation for all of our caregivers. This means that if you’re injured on the job, you’re covered.

Can I Choose My Own Clients?

Your supervisor will match you with clients who fit your availability and personality, as we feel it is the best plan for both of you. When your supervisor has found a good match for you, he or she will go over that client’s plan of care with you. If you feel that the plan is outside what you’re capable of offering, simply tell your supervisor and a suitable caregiver will be found for the client.

Can I Be a Caregiver to My Family Member?

Caring for a loved one is important, but at Comfort Keepers we assign clients to you. This is the best way to make sure that they get the care and support they need. While you can care for your family member on the time that you are not working, you cannot do it as part of your job with Comfort Keepers.

I Go to School, Can I Schedule Around My Classes?

Many caregivers are students or recent graduates. Let your supervisor know when you have classes and they can build a work schedule around it. When your classes change, let your supervisor know as soon as possible. This allows them to update your schedule. Being a caregiver is a great way to earn money and gain experience at school.

What Happens If I Get Sick?

Getting sick is natural, and we don't want you to get your client sick. Contact your supervisor as soon as you’re feeling ill so they can get coverage for your client.  Being a caregiver requires that you be there for your client when you are scheduled. This reliability is an important part of Comfort Keepers. We expect sickness to occur, but it should be an uncommon occurrence. This allows us to give the best service to our clients.

Can I Have Another Job and Be a Comfort Keeper?

In most cases, we recommend against having another job if you choose to be a caregiver. A second job can interfere with your ability to provide your client with the care that they require and deserve.

If you want to get a second part-time job, ask your supervisor. They will ask about the schedule requirements and duties to look for potential conflicts. They will approve your request if it will not risk your client's care. If they do not approve the request, you cannot take the second position.

Can I Get a Promotion?

Comfort Keepers offers annual reviews. If you perform well, you can earn a raise and a promotion. We believe in rewarding excellence. If you get extra certifications, or a new position opens up, you could also get a promotion*

How Do Taxes Work?

With Comfort Keepers, you are an employee at your local office. This means we take care of all taxes, just like other employers.

How Much Will I Get Paid?

We pride ourselves on compensating our caregivers well. The amount you make will depend on your position, experience, and where you live.

If I Have a Certification, Do I Get Paid More?

This is possible and can be discussed. We value that you are investing in your own education and we will try to reward you for doing so. Certifications make you eligible for higher paying positions. Speak with your supervisor about building an education plan. This will help you advance to the job that you want*.

Is There a Bonus If I Refer a Friend to Comfort Keepers?

Yes! If you refer a friend or family member to work with us, you get a special bonus as a thank you for helping us grow our team.

Can I Earn Other Bonuses?

We offer merit-based bonuses throughout the year. If you help us excel at our mission of helping our clients, we want to reward you*.

Can I Get Health Insurance?

Full-time Comfort Keepers are eligible for comprehensive health coverage. Part-time caregivers do not get personal insurance, but they do enjoy full Workers Comp protection*.

Do You Offer a Pension or 401k?

We offer a 401k retirement plan for all full-time associates*.
