Why Comfort Keepers®?
Our Story
Jonathan Luu, owner of the Comfort Keepers® office serving the northern Seattle area, knew he wanted to help people. After graduating with a degree in health information technology, his desire to serve others by working in the health care industry led him to such places as Northwest Hospital, the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. It was in 2006, however, when Jonathan’s own father became ill, that Jonathan’s life took a dramatic turn.
After taking the time to care for his father, Jonathan realized the great need for compassionate people in the home care industry. Through extensive research, Jonathan learned that Comfort Keepers was exactly the organization for which he was looking. In addition to having a rigorous screening process for all of its caregivers, he found Comfort Keepers shares his passion for helping people live full, independent, and dignified lives within the comfort of their own homes.
Today, our northern Seattle Comfort Keepers office, locally owned and operated by Jonathan, is a leader in home care. In addition to our companionship services—which include meal preparation, friendly companionship, and incidental transportation—we provide a full range of personal assistance. Bathing, mobility, hygiene, live-in or live-out, temporary or long term—whatever your current in-home care needs might be, our office is here to help.
We pride ourselves on giving back to the people who have gone before us. There is no greater honor than serving people who have spent their life paving the way for future generations. We work hard to enable seniors to retain the highest possible level of independent living, because for those of us who are privileged to be a part of the Comfort Keepers family, we believe that providing elder care is not a job—it is a joy!
Our Team
The northern Seattle Comfort Keepers office staff is comprised of a team of people, all of whom share the same passion for helping others. It starts with the franchise owner, Jonathan, who oversees the day-to-day operations. The team also includes our Client Care Coordinators, who make up the management team. Care Coordinators provide free initial home care assessments, work with the client and other family members or loved ones to coordinate services, and continually provide supervision to make sure the client is completely satisfied once the in-home care process begins.
Our caregivers—we call them Comfort Keepers®—are the most important part of our team. To become a Comfort Keeper, each applicant is carefully selected, screened, and trained. The selection process includes a rigorous screening process: a formal application, followed by a series of background checks, including county by county and national criminal background, and driving checks. We also contact a minimum of three personal and/or work references, in addition to the screening test and the required full-day orientation each applicant must pass.
Our Comfort Keepers are well-trained, receiving in-depth training on personal and senior care that prepares them for dealing with a wide range of in-home situations. Each Comfort Keeper is bonded, which provides peace of mind to family members. Our management team is always there, supervising the client/caregiver relationship twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and committed to helping each Comfort Keeper stay up-to-date on the most current information in home care.
We do all of this preparation because the most important person in this whole process is still you, the person in need of in-home care. All of the screening, training, and preparation mean very little unless you, the client, have the best possible in-home care experience. That’s why, when considering future Comfort Keepers, we look for someone with not only professional competence and personal character, but also we look for people who have a heart for others.
When you meet your Comfort Keeper for the first time, you will understand what we mean. What separates us—what truly makes Comfort Keepers different—is the manor in which each of our Comfort Keepers delivers care interactively by engaging and involving the client in his/her care. There may be other caregiver agencies, but our employees are distinct because they truly have a desire to help others. It’s what makes our caregivers special, unique—it’s why they’re called “Comfort Keepers.”
Our Commitment
It starts with you, the client. We tailor the care delivered based on the individual requests of the senior or other person in need of care, including a free initial assessment to determine exactly what you or your loved one’s needs are. We will involve family members and loved ones, and keep everyone involved in the care informed of any necessary changes or updates. We will also educate them on how best to take care of any special needs.
We then take exceptional consideration to match each client with just the right Comfort Keeper, using our sophisticated database to match clients with the perfect set of skills and personality. We provide extensive follow-up to the first visit, making sure both the client and caregiver are completely happy. In addition, we provide advanced scheduling; so that both the client and family members will know what to expect, and can easily alter the schedule as the care needs change.
Comfort Keepers often works with outside agencies, including home health agencies, physical therapists, and other health professionals, to provide complementary services. This method of cooperation ensures the client is provided a full spectrum of care that will help expedite the recovery process and help reduce the risk of re-injury or re-hospitalization.
We provide not only ongoing daily care, but also live-in care and respite care as well. Whether you need a night out once in a while, or need us to be with your loved one daily, our staff is here for you. We’ve also worked closely with hospice, who will often call us directly, asking us to provide non-medical care while someone from hospice provides the necessary medical treatment.
Located in north Seattle (Shoreline), our office is a premier provider of affordable in-home care throughout the Puget Sound, Washington area—affordable because you choose the services you need and we’ll design a package to fit. We strive to keep seniors mentally, physically, emotionally and socially engaged so they can enjoy a higher quality of life and live independently longer.
SafetyChoice™
All seniors want to be independent and living in their own home, but nothing is more important than their safety. Whether a response to an emergency or medication management, SafetyChoice™ in-home care technology solutions by Comfort Keepers® means help is always at hand. SafetyChoice safety technology complements our in-home care services with around the clock monitoring so you know that help is always available.
Companionship Care
Companionship caregiver services include such services as light housekeeping, friendly conversation, recreational activities, incidental transportation, laundry washing, medication reminders, and family respite.
Personal Care
Personal care entails hands-on service for those who require bathing, mobility, transferring, positioning, toileting, hygiene, and feeding assistance.
Post-Hospital Care
In many cases, when someone leaves the hospital, the healing process is only the beginning. If you or a loved one is looking for post-hospital support while you adjust to life back at home (such as a new mother, or a patient recovering from surgery), our team can help you with many of the little tasks that can seem initially overwhelming, such as grocery shopping, laundry, and food preparation.
Hospice Support
Hospice is available when a patient no longer responds to curative treatments. Providing care in a hospice situation is difficult at best. Many family caregivers must deal with not only the time demands and additional responsibilities, but also the emotional needs of their loved one and family. The daily demands of caregiving for a loved one who is nearing the end of their life can be emotionally and physically draining. To provide compassionate, caring support for those dealing with difficult end-of-life issues, our Comfort Keepers office has established a great working relationship with hospice and hospice workers in the northern Seattle area.
Alzheimer’s and Dementia Assistance
A loss of memory can often feel like a loss of personal freedoms. That’s why we here at Comfort Keepers offer a wide variety of kind, loving services to meet the daily needs of those dealing with the difficulties associated with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
