About Us
Elly Smith first learned about Comfort Keepers’ quality brand of caregiving when she hired the in-home care provider for a family member. She was so impressed with their level of compassion, attention, and professionalism, that she encouraged other senior relatives to receive the same type of care, thereby enabling them to continue living within the comfort of their own homes.
By offering supervision and oversight to family members who lived out of town, Comfort Keepers was the perfect solution for her senior relatives, and now with 25 years in volunteer service, corporate business, and an educational background, Elly found Comfort Keepers to be the perfect match for her.
Smith became the owner of the Costa Mesa, California, Comfort Keepers franchise in August 2007. She joined Comfort Keepers, impressed by the company’s high standards of service and ethics and its model for high quality in-home care for seniors and other adults. For the past decade, this formula has proven successful in more than 560 franchises in the U.S. and abroad, enabling clients to enjoy as high a level of independence and quality of life as possible in their own homes—right where they most want to be.
Elly believes that Comfort Keepers attracts caregivers who, like her, love seniors, love spending time with them, love talking with them and who find it very gratifying to help people stay in their homes.
The locally owned and operated Comfort Keepers franchise serves the Newport Beach and Costa Mesa areas, enhancing the lives of clients and providing their families the peace-of-mind that their loved ones are receiving compassionate, professional care that allows them to live safely and happily at home.
Comfort Keepers provides a full range of in-home care services—companionship, personal care, and home safety and technology—that can be tailored to meet the evolving needs of seniors as they age at home, as well as independent adults who could use a little extra help around the house.
What Sets Us Apart
At Comfort Keepers, we are very flexible and responsive to individual senior care needs. Comfort Keepers offers clients and their families a wide degree of service flexibility—from a few hours a week, to provide family caregivers a respite, to full-time and any amount in between—whatever is needed to best serve each client.
Unlike most in-home care providers that require at least four hours of service on a given day, we can schedule as few as two hours a day.
We’re accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and someone is always available to answer your calls.
We work with families to adjust senior care services as needed to meet the changing needs of our clients.
We offer free in-home assessments to determine your and your loved one’s needs, and we work with families to develop a care plan that is unique to each individual. We always strive to provide the most appropriate level of service to maximize each client’s quality of life and independence.
Comfort Keepers’ approach to in-home care—what we call Interactive Caregiving™—further separates us from other senior care providers. We involve our clients in their home care plan and offer them a mix of physical activity, mental stimulation, emotional support and social engagement that promotes their independence and quality of life.
In addition to providing homemaking and personal care services, our Comfort Keepers®—the name we give the special people who deliver Comfort Keepers’ special brand of in-home care—take walks with clients, work on puzzles with clients, engage in conversation, take clients to church or social events … all types of activities that are important to them and enrich their lives.
There are numerous studies that validate that this type of in-home caregiving promotes the health and well-being of seniors.
Our Comfort Keepers®
Our Comfort Keepers are more than caregivers. They’re proficient at providing quality homemaking and personal care. But they have something to offer clients that no amount of training can provide: compassion, warmth and an innate desire to help others. Our Comfort Keepers provide not only care to seniors and other adult clients, but they are companions and often times friends. Clients look forward to their time together as they share in conversation and activities, from walks to hobbies to shopping trips.
We hire Comfort Keepers who have at least two years of caregiving experience. Candidates complete a pre-employment assessment to make sure they have a passion for caregiving. In addition they must pass a thorough reference and background check (zero tolerance for criminal history), as well as complete an orientation and additional training before they serve their first clients. They also complete ongoing home care training to keep their caregiving up-to-date.
For our clients’ and their families’ peace of mind, we supervise, bond and insure our Comfort Keepers. In addition, they are covered by Workers’ Compensation.
The Comfort Keepers Team
In addition to our Comfort Keepers our team includes:
- A Client Care Coordinator, who schedules and matches our Comfort Keepers with clients. The Client Care Coordinator interviews new clients to get to know their interests, needs and concerns and match them with the most appropriate Comfort Keeper. We strive to match clients and Comfort Keepers whose personalities mesh well to form the basis of a strong, beneficial relationship. The Client Care Coordinator also follows through to make certain that clients’ needs are being met.
- Our General Manager, who manages the day-to-day operations of the Costa Mesa, California, Comfort Keepers office. The General Manager also networks with other area senior care service providers to help connect seniors and their families to Comfort Keepers services as well as a full range of other in-home care and health care services, such as home health care, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and hospice.
