When Michael Jones, a Certified Senior Advisor (or C.S.A.), moved to Florida with his wife, Charlotte, who’s a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (R.N., B.S.N.), they could not have known what kind of impact starting a Comfort Keepers would have on Venice and the surrounding community. Since 2000, their local Comfort Keepers office has helped numerous seniors receive the compassionate in-home care that has become synonymous with the Comfort Keepers brand.
In the Venice area, if you or a loved one is looking for warm, personalized senior care, Comfort Keepers is the solution. For clients to live full, independent and dignified lives within the comfort of their own homes, we provide these and many other valuable services:
- Respite for Family & Caregivers
- Interactive Caregiving & Companionship
- Errand Services & Transportation Assistance
- Recreational Activities
- Medication Reminders
- 24-Hour Care
What separates us from other in-home or assisted living organizations?
Personal Caregivers
If you talk to anyone inside the Comfort Keepers organization, they’ll quickly tell you how important each carefully selected and trained caregiver, or “Comfort Keeper,” is to their success. Rather than merely following the minimum state requirements or hiring quickly to fill a need, Comfort Keepers is extremely selective, hiring only about 1 out of every 30 who call us for employment. Our thorough screening process includes conducting an extensive series of background checks, including credit, criminal, and driving checks, because by going the extra mile, we make sure our clients receive the best capable and compassionate in-home care.
After our Comfort Keepers undergo rigorous caregiver training which, we believe, is second to none, they receive additional CPR and Alzheimer’s instruction. Following the Basic training comes Interactive training, a process that Comfort Keepers has formalized and developed. It’s the type of training that enables our Venice caregivers to develop an environment of engaging and stimulating interaction between senior and in-home caregivers, thereby helping your loved one achieve mental vitality and emotional wellbeing.
We here at Comfort Keepers also believe it is extremely important to only hire Comfort Keepers as employees. This position enables us to supervise, bond, insure, and cover our employees with Workmans’ compensation, as well as handle all the payroll taxes so you don’t become an accidental employer (see “How to Chose an Agency”). We take these unique steps and others like them to protect you and your loved ones and provide the ultimate peace of mind.
But as critical as it is to know how to do the job, knowing why you do the job is equally important to us. Besides passing our psychological behavior survey, our Comfort Keepers are exceptional because they must also pass what we call our “lovability test.” In other words, if we don’t sense a warm, “teddy-bear” heart, they’re not employed by Comfort Keepers. The immediate difference between us and any other agency is that we only accept the most caring, compassionate people to work for our organization, because while plenty of people can become a caregiver, only a select handful ever become a Comfort Keeper.
Individualized Service
When you call us, you won’t speak to a machine. One of our trained team members will pick up the first time you call. Having a live available person to speak with—even after hours—is important to us. We also provide a free initial in-home assessment to determine your loved one’s specific needs, as well as help design a plan of care while working around your schedule and including family and your other advisors.
Treating each new client as an individual is the reason we take such great consideration in matching our clients with just the right Comfort Keeper. In fact, we match the client with a Comfort Keeper only after assessing the client’s personality and interests. This same assessment helps us create a unique care program to fit his or her specific needs, keeping your loved one both mentally and physically challenged.
We give our clients the final say in how much time his or her Comfort Keeper will work, since our Venice caregivers can work anywhere from part-time, full-time, and everything in between. Once a program is up and running, we constantly obtain feedback from our caregivers, keeping all involved parties aware of any concerns or changes that need to be addressed.
Regular Comfort Keeper and client supervision makes sure your loved one is consistently receiving the type of care he or she needs. Such a personalized, client-centered program enables our clients to enjoy a better quality of life and state of wellness. By matching people with the personal, accommodating in-home care they desire, it’s been our experience that you’re also giving them the independence, freedom, and dignity they deserve.
Industry Models
Our self-imposed mottos—“provide nothing but excellence” and “always do the right thing”— hold us to the absolute highest standards. We pride ourselves on helping each new client receive the individualized, personal care he or she deserves, and because of that kind of commitment, Comfort Keepers is one of the largest in-home care agencies in the U.S.
As models for the in-home care industry, you can rest assured knowing that we have the backing, experience, and knowledge to deal with any situation. With over 550 locations worldwide, Comfort Keepers has been listed by Entrepreneur Magazine as far back as 2003 as the #1 agency in Senior Care. Our local position in the community allows us to give superb personal service, while our size as a global organization enables our part-time residents to have consistency if and when they change locations.
Each Comfort Keepers office is independently owned and operated, so the success of the Venice office relies heavily on its owners, Michael and Charlotte Jones. With 11 years of nursing experience, Charlotte, R.N., B.S.N., currently supervises, trains, and assists the home health aides of Comfort Keepers. As an official C.S.A. (or Certified Senior Advisor) Michael has helped make his Comfort Keepers office consistently ranked as one of the top Comfort Keepers in the state of Florida.
Comprised of a network of special individuals, people who were often drawn to this business as a result of their own experiences in caring for a loved one, Comfort Keepers is driven to provide the absolute best comforting care solutions. It takes both these special, caring employees along with an experienced, knowledgeable support base to make Comfort Keepers the true standard of in-home care.
Example In-Home Services
For in-home elderly care, we provide a wide range of need-specific services. Here are just a few:
Personal Care: Our higher level of hands-on assistance includes bathing, grooming, feeding, transferring and hygiene care, and must be provided by trained and supervised Home Health Aides.
Companionship Care: Like having a surrogate family member in the home, our companionship care includes services such as recreational and exercise activities, friendly conversation, interactive supervised care programs, healthy meal preparation, family relief, and medication reminders.
Medication Management System: As one of the larger consultants and distributors of everything from reminder programs to actual medication dispensers, we make sure your loved one continually and properly uses his or her therapeutic medication regimen. We believe that the right meds at the right time is critical to reducing hospitalization.
Emergency Response System: Our Comfort Keepers office is one of the largest installers and managers of emergency response systems, enabling individuals who live alone to summon help at the mere touch of a button. Our consultants will use the latest technology available today to customize a system for your loved one’s emergency monitoring needs.
Going Home with Comfort Keepers: This program provides post-hospital transportation, support, and care. We’ll integrate services with Medicare providers and consult with your discharge planner, in addition to any food shopping, medication pick-ups, home cleaning and 24-hour care that’s needed.
Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care: Part of what makes Comfort Keepers a preferred provider for the Alzheimer’s Association is that we require all our Venice caregivers to have an advanced type of Alzheimer’s training that many other memory care and in-home agencies do not.
End of Life Support: We help our clients preserve their dignity and provide a quality of life that can only be achieved at home, even during especially emotional situations. Often used as a supplement to hospice care, our compassionate and caring Comfort Keepers offer a level of sensitivity, care, and support that is invaluable to the client and their families.
Home Management Services: From grab bars to medical equipment, from plumbers to attorneys, we have the local relationships to make your life easier. Rely on our network of professionals to accomplish anything needed for your loved one’s safety and comfort.
Personal Trainers and Fall-Prevention Specialists: Our home helpers and private consultants can teach your loved one the balance and strength training that will reduce the risk of falls or injuries.
