About Us
Selby Clark, owner and operator of the Comfort Keepers office located in the heart of Houston, Texas, earned an MBA from the University of Texas and worked in the corporate world after graduation. After several years he discovered he wanted something more in life. While he and his wife cared for her grandmother, he found what he was looking for. The experience gave Selby a sense of fulfillment as he enabled his wife’s grandmother to receive the care she needed in home rather than at an outside facility.
The experience also opened his eyes to the benefits of home care. There are numerous types of care available to seniors, including assisted living, nursing homes, and home health agencies. But in 2004, when he read in a magazine about the quality in-home and senior care services of Comfort Keepers, he found his calling and purchased a Comfort Keepers franchise in Houston, Texas.
Now, through Comfort Keepers, he provides many seniors and other adults the independence and quality of life he helped provide his wife’s grandmother.
A Unique Approach: Interactive Caregiving™
Comfort Keepers offers a distinctive brand of in-home care, which we call Interactive Caregiving™. Through Interactive Caregiving™, our Comfort Keepers enrich clients’ lives through an invigorating mix of activities that engage them physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. This may include walks in the neighborhood, visits with friends, trips to church and other community activities, working on puzzles or hobbies and engaging in conversation about current events or matters close to the heart.
Our Comfort Keepers intermingle these types of activities into their schedule of homemaking and personal care services. Research shows that this approach to senior care improves physical and mental health, enhances independence and elevates quality of life.
Our Comfort Keepers Help Make the Difference
Our unique approach to in-home care and senior care requires that we look for Comfort Keepers who have been naturally gifted with a compassionate heart and the inclination to put others’ needs first.
To make sure we hire only the best caregivers, Comfort Keepers has established a thorough screening, interviewing and training process. This includes extensive local and national criminal background checks and multiple interviews. For our clients’ and their families’ peace-of-mind, we bond and insure our Comfort Keepers and cover them with Workers’ Compensation.
Our Comfort Keepers complete extensive training before they begin caring for clients and they complete required on-going training to maintain and enhance their in-home care skills.
The Comfort Keepers Team: Always Ready to Help
Throughout our organization, from our Comfort Keepers to our managers and owners, someone is always available to personally help clients and family members. Comfort Keepers is available 24/7 to answer your call and find the solutions you need. In addition to our Comfort Keepers, our team includes:
- Client Care Coordinators, who provide free in-home consultations to help families determine if Comfort Keepers is right for them and to develop a plan of care to meet each client’s and family’s needs. They match clients with Comfort Keepers who have compatible personalities and interests to promote optimal outcomes. They also monitor quality of clients’ care and work with families to modify care plans as clients’ needs change.
- Client Care Manager, who manages the office and develops networks and relationships with other senior care and health care providers (such as home health agencies, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities) so we can connect our clients and families with needed services that are not among Comfort Keepers’ specialties.
To Meet Your Needs, We’re Flexible
We know that our clients’ needs will change, so we are prepared to adjust care plans as needed to always provide the most appropriate level of care for promoting our clients’ quality of life.
Our goal is to help our clients achieve a greater sense of independence, and to maintain a feeling of control that comes from living at home.
Comfort Keepers Services
Along with our homemaking, companionship and personal care services, we offer:
Comfort Keepers’ SafetyChoice® Technology Solutions, which extend care and protection when caregivers aren’t present in the home. These include:
- The SafetyChoice® Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) offers family members peace-of-mind, around the clock. The Comfort Keepers client wears an emergency call button on a pendant or bracelet and can instantly summon help in the event of a fall or other emergency. PERS units are monitored 24 hours a day at the SafetyChoice® monitoring center by specially trained personnel who dispatch help. The monitor center can call 911 and family members during the critical minutes of an emergency, reducing the severity of injury or illness.
- The SafetyChoice® Fall Detector—a device that is clipped to clothing and monitored by the SafetyChoice® monitoring center in the event of a fall.
- The SafetyChoice® Medication Management System, which helps seniors take medication as prescribed, for improved health.
Alzheimer’s/Dementia care provided by specially trained Comfort Keepers. Their training prepares them to effectively communicate with, respond to, and care for persons with these conditions. This care can be scheduled from a few hours a week to full time, as needed by the client and family.
Hospice Care, provided in partnership with hospice agencies.
Post-Hospital Care and Support helps clients and families readjust to life back home. Comfort Keepers can help with the many tasks that may at first seem overwhelming, such as grocery shopping, laundry and meal preparation.
