Michael Jones, a Certified Senior Advisor (C.S.A.), and Charlotte Jones, a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (R.N., B.S.N.), moved to Florida with the aspiration of helping others, having no idea what kind of impact starting a Comfort Keepers would have on Sarasota and its surrounding communities. Over eight years later, this husband and wife team has realized their dream, having helped countless seniors receive the personalized, professional care that has become synonymous with the Comfort Keepers brand.

When someone in the Sarasota area needs the best possible in-home care, Comfort Keepers is here to provide the answer. The mission of Comfort Keepers is to help its clients live dignified, independent, and full lives within the comfort of their own homes. To accomplish that very goal, we provide these and many other valuable services:

  • Interactive Caregiving and Companionship
  • Errand Services and Transportation Assistance
  • Respite for Families & Caregivers
  • Medication Reminders
  • Recreational Activities
  • 24-Hour Care

What separates us from other in-home or assisted living organizations?

Compassionate Caregivers

When we carefully select, screen, and train our Comfort Keepers, we do it to make sure families and seniors receive the capable and compassionate care they deserve. Because we’re so selective, one must undergo a thorough and rigorous screening process to become a “Comfort Keeper,” which is the unique name for our carefully selected and trained caregivers. Indeed, we hire on average only 1 for every 30 who call us for employment. We do an extensive amount of background work, including credit, criminal, and driving checks, rather than just the minimum state requirements or hiring quickly to fill a need.

In addition to the CPR and Alzheimer’s training each Comfort Keepers receives, we also require them to undergo rigorous caregiver training which, we believe, is second to none. After the Basic training comes the most important part – Interactive Training. Comfort Keepers has formalized and developed this critical aspect of care, because we understand how an environment of engaging and stimulating interaction between seniors and in-home caregivers cultivates mental vitality and emotional wellbeing.

We take many unique steps to protect you and your loved ones and provide the ultimate peace of mind. We believe it is extremely important to only hire Comfort Keepers as employees. This enables us to supervise, bond, insure, and cover our employees with Workmans’ compensation. We also handle all payroll taxes so you don’t become an accidental employer (see “How to Choose an Agency”).

But as critical as it is to know how to do the job, knowing the job just isn’t quite enough. Our Comfort Keepers are exceptional because each one must pass not only our psychological behavioral survey, but also what we call the “lovability test.” We hold our employees to the highest possible competency standards, but if we don’t sense a warm, “teddy-bear” heart, they’re not employed by Comfort Keepers. By only accepting the most caring, compassionate people to work for our organization, you can see the immediate difference between us and any other agency. There are plenty of people who can become a caregiver; not everyone can be a Comfort Keeper.

Tailored Service

When you contact us, one of our trained team members will help provide quality information. We always have a live person available to speak with –even after hours. We provide a free initial in-home assessment to determine you or your loved one’s personal needs. Working around your schedule and including family, and your other advisors we help design a plan of care.

Each of our clients is treated like an individual. We take such exceptional consideration in matching our clients with just the right Comfort Keeper. Each client is matched with a Comfort Keeper only after assessing the client’s personality and interests. In addition we create a unique care program to fit his or her specific needs, to keep them mentally and physically challenged.

Our clients also have the say in how much time his or her Comfort Keeper will work, since our Sarasota caregivers can work anywhere from a few hours, full-time , and everything in between. We constantly obtain feedback from our Comfort Keepers, so once a care program is up and running, we make it a point to keep all involved parties updated and aware of any concerns or important changes we notice.

By providing frequent Comfort Keeper and client supervision, we make sure your loved one is consistently receiving the type of care he or she needs. This enables our clients to enjoy a better quality of life and state of wellness. It’s been our experience that, by matching people with the personal, accommodating in-home care they desire, you’re also giving them the independence, freedom, and dignity they deserve.

Industry Standard

The phrases “to provide nothing but excellence” and “always do the right thing” may sound cliché to an outsider, but to the people here at Comfort Keepers, it’s regarded as company philosophy. Internally, we hold ourselves to the highest absolute standards, and these two self-imposed rules have not only led us to help each new client receive the best service possible—they’ve made us into industry leaders.

People using the services of Comfort Keepers can rest assured knowing we have the backing, experience, and knowledge to deal with any situation, since Comfort Keepers is one of the largest in-home care agencies in the United States. Having over 550 Comfort Keepers locations worldwide has enabled us to serve people on a global scale, and as far back as 2003 Comfort Keepers was listed as the #1 agency in Senior Care by Entrepreneur Magazine. Being locally owned allows us to give superb personal service, and our size allows our part time residents to have Comfort Keepers consistency any time they change locations.

The success of the Sarasota office (each office is independently owned and operated) relies heavily on the leadership and guidance of its owners, Michael Jones, C.S.A., and his wife, Charlotte Jones, R.N., B.S.N. Charlotte currently trains, supervises, and assists the home health aides of Comfort Keepers, while Michael, as a guiding hand of the agency, had lead the Sarasota branch to be consistently ranked as one of the top Comfort Keepers in the state of Florida.

Comprised of a network of special individuals committed to providing comforting care solutions, the Comfort Keepers franchise is driven by carefully selected and trained caregivers who were drawn to this business as a result of their own experiences in caring for a loved one. With a unique combination of special, caring employees and an experienced, knowledgeable support base, Comfort Keepers is truly the standard of in-home care.

Individual Services

When it comes to elderly care, nobody provides better, personalized care than Comfort Keepers. Here are just some of the many services we provide:

Companionship Care: Companionship care is like having a surrogate family member in the home, with services such as our interactive supervised care programs, friendly conversation, exercise and recreational activities, healthy meal preparation, family relief, and medication reminders.

Personal Care: Personal care is the phrase used to describe our higher level of hands-on assistance such as bathing, grooming, feeding, transferring, and hygiene care. This service must be provided by trained and supervised Home Health Aides.

Emergency Response System: As a form of emergency monitoring, we give individuals the ability to summon help in case of an emergency at the touch of a button. We are one of the largest installers and managers of emergency response systems, and our consultants customize a system from the latest technology available today.

Medication Management System: Comfort Keepers is called on to consult and install everything from reminder programs to actual medication dispensers, making sure your loved ones continually and properly uses their therapeutic medication regimen. The right meds at the right time is critical to reducing hospitalization.

Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care: We require all our caregivers to have Alzheimer’s training that many other in-home care agencies do not. Similar to memory care, our Alzheimer’s and Dementia care program is a major reason why Comfort Keepers is a preferred provider for the Alzheimer’s Association.

End of Life Support: Our compassionate and caring Comfort Keepers offer a level of sensitivity, care, and support during especially emotional situations that is invaluable to the client and their families. Often used as a supplement to hospice care, our End of Life Support program helps our clients preserve their dignity and provides a quality of life that can only be achieved at home.

Going Home with Comfort Keepers: This program will provide post-hospital transportation, care, and support. We consult with your discharge planner, integrate services with Medicare providers, and provide numerous invaluable services to make your return home an easy transition, including transportation home, picking up medications, opening and cleaning home, and even 24-hour care for safety if needed.

Home Management Services: Rely on our network of professionals to accomplish anything needed for comfort and safety. From attorneys to plumbers to trust officers, from grab bars to medical equipment, we have the relationships to make your life easier.

Personal Trainers and Fall Prevention Specialist: Let our private consultants and home helpers teach you balance and strength training to reduce the risk of falls and injuries.
